Johnny_Boy Posted January 8, 2008 Report Posted January 8, 2008 Just as the subject says: my uTorrent client sends packets via the network adapter even when it's not running.Resetting didn't help and it's quite annoying ...Did anyone come across this kind of phenomenon ?
DreadWingKnight Posted January 8, 2008 Report Posted January 8, 2008 Sending packets isn't possible when the program is closed.Receiving packets would be believable. Other clients don't know you're gone yet.
jewelisheaven Posted January 8, 2008 Report Posted January 8, 2008 Are you sure the client is closed? If you have bt.graceful_shutdown on the client will stay open as long as it needs to be to finish up pending networking tasks.
Johnny_Boy Posted January 8, 2008 Author Report Posted January 8, 2008 so the other clients think i'm still there ? wouldn't it be more logical that when a client is closed it sends RESETS to all other clients telling them it no longer there ?jewelisheaven, i don't know what you mean ...
jewelisheaven Posted January 8, 2008 Report Posted January 8, 2008 RESET packets are sent while transferring by ISPs who choose to use hardware which performs said function. If you are not there other clients receive no reply. If you are there but you no longer are running that torrent (at least in uT), it will reply with, disconnect: not a valid INFOHASH.
DreadWingKnight Posted January 8, 2008 Report Posted January 8, 2008 some clients cache information about you for minutes to hours. The closing of connections doesn't inform peers that haven't connected to you yet.
Firon Posted January 8, 2008 Report Posted January 8, 2008 You'll get hits from other peers for days. No, you can't do anything about it. No, it doesn't matter what client you use.
