joyflux Posted January 9, 2008 Report Posted January 9, 2008 So I just got a new computer with vista on it and I cant seem to get utorrent to download anything, i just get the red box with the arrow in it. I've followed these steps here: http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies.cfm?t=499281&p=17#r330 but it didn't seem to fix the problem. any help would be really appreciated, thanks.
Ultima Posted January 9, 2008 Report Posted January 9, 2008 What modem are you using? How about router? What firewall, if any? Can you get Process Explorer from sysinternals.com, run it, File > Save, then post the contents of the saved process list in the .txt file here?

Ultima Posted January 9, 2008 Report Posted January 9, 2008 Try connecting your computer directly to the SurfBoard to see if the problem persists.
jewelisheaven Posted January 10, 2008 Report Posted January 10, 2008 What is/are the error messages you get when you try running either of the sample torrents from http://distribution.openoffice.org/p2p/ or http://www.slackware.com/torrents/
Ultima Posted January 10, 2008 Report Posted January 10, 2008 Your SurfBoard is probably being stupid, as SurfBoards have been known to cause port forwarding issues. If at all possible, try another computer with another OS (Windows XP?) without any third-party firewall (Windows Firewall is fine) and connect it directly to the SurfBoard. If the port remains closed in the µTorrent port checker, then it's almost definitely the SurfBoard.
joyflux Posted January 11, 2008 Author Report Posted January 11, 2008 ok, so I had a friend come over with his XP laptop. we both tried the same 2 torrents at the same time. both of mine are stll at 0% each, and one of his finished, the other is at 68%. This was with the wireless connection, so now I know its something with this computer, Im just not sure what.
jewelisheaven Posted January 12, 2008 Report Posted January 12, 2008 I don't know. Since it's a new install of vista there's probably some security feature enabled by default which isn't needed BEYOND the firewall rules which uT can map itself. I gave up on troubleshooting vista before new years when a friend came over and even after a big brou-ha-ha the only way we could get it to "network" with existing computers was to use a flash drive, lol So much for "easier".
jagirl Posted January 12, 2008 Report Posted January 12, 2008 I am having the same problem and there seem to be no solution. So far I have enabled the port utorrent is using, enabled every single thing in the exception list (yes i know it is crazy but I am losing it now), then disabled the firewall. Still no solution. I am convince the problem must be with Vista as I have tried too many torrent software since yesterday. Would appreciate any help on this one.
HCLivess Posted January 12, 2008 Report Posted January 12, 2008 I have a problem with uTorrent CZ 1.7.5 (4602), version 1.6.1 (490) works just fine. Every time I run 4602, it blocks my connection over the Firefox, IE browsers and any other applications using internet. It happens with every torrent, it has nothing to do with the DHT, NAT, seeds, servers (browsers seem to send out data, but doesn't appear to recieve any, servers do not respond). It happens without regard to the speed (internet already doesn't work at 1 KB/s). BitTorrent 6.0 works just fine. Im using Eset Smart Security Firewall...
Firon Posted January 12, 2008 Report Posted January 12, 2008 Your net.max_halfopen is too high. Lower it to 8 or less.
Ultima Posted January 13, 2008 Report Posted January 13, 2008 Wow, I totally misread the first post as being about the port status, not about the tracker status >_>
