Tjeerd Posted January 9, 2008 Report Posted January 9, 2008 Guys,Need some help...Recently I got internet at my apartment. A company in the same building offers it.When I started downloading again I had a terrible low download-speed cause incomming connections were blocked.Did some tests and all ports of their server are closed for incoming traffic. When I download something like a .rar-file from the net I have no problems but torrents take me like days to download it.Is there a way to avoid this?Thnx
jewelisheaven Posted January 9, 2008 Report Posted January 9, 2008 ... have you tried Ultima's How-To? If the Setup Guide (3rd link on Guides page) does not apply because this "company" is merely giving you access to their leased line or whatnot, then you need to ask them about it. If you cannot access the internet POP for your service and forward ports there, you are at the mercy of the company's IT people or whoever you originally talked to to get service :/
Tjeerd Posted January 9, 2008 Author Report Posted January 9, 2008 Yep, I think I am...Think I need to talk with them again but how do I confins them to open that port for me?Or other torrent-freaks...Thnx
jewelisheaven Posted January 9, 2008 Report Posted January 9, 2008 Well you need to verify with them that they have full control over the NAT settings for the building since they are kind enough to sub-lease their service to you. They didn't give you any other sort of hardware to plug into or SSID for wireless when you paid for service??If they say "yes you need to talk to us for any NAT issues" all you have to do is say "yes I was wondering if you could forward a block of 10 ports to my IP please, in the range of (give a range of 10 ports, for the usage of other programs. uT only needs 1 to function) xxxxx-yyyyy. N.B.: the range should be above 10000 to keep their ISP from interfering directly, and any range between 40000-65000 should be OK to keep from conflicting with anything they have set-up. This only leaves automated methods for traffic shaping or connection throttling as possible issues, which should be able to be lessened if you follow Ultima's How-To Are there any other questions right now?
