Ports - Finding / Securing / Which are good, etc

Hi,

I'm only new to this Port Forwarding etc.

My question is:

Is there a way to know which Ports are open, and which ones are good to use and how can you see which ports have the most seeders etc. Cause I'm having troubles securing a flow of data coming through some ports that I've just radomized, I put about 2 ports forward to my modem. Now I stick with 1 port, but I find that sometimes that my downloads have a Red Arrow next to the are at a standstill, but when I restart Utorrent they start downloading again.

?? ports dont affect swarms or peers/seeders.

What error is under the tracker status for the red-arrowed ones? http://utorrent.com/faq.php#What_do_the_red_icons_mean_on_the_torrent_status_icons.3F If you are forwarded correctly you can receive incoming connections (denoted by the "I" flag under the Peers tab). They should continue downloading while it stays up. Any initial downloading is due to you being "new" to the swarm so as the peers you are connecting to are concerned. If you have bad settings for your connection speed (have you checked your connection with a speed test) and not configured the Speed Guide (Ctrl-G) at all it makes sense that you are not working well because most connections can't handle too many concurrent connections.

What is your connection speed? What speeds do you notice while running either of the sample torrents from the How-To? ( http://distribution.openoffice.org/p2p/ and http://www.slackware.com/torrents/ for your reference )

Have you read through the Guides page? The 2nd link tells you more about what happens behind the scenes for torrenting, and the 3rd gives you a step-by-step for following the setup procedure.

Thanks Mate,

I will check it out tonight when I get home from boring work. I will post a reply regarding the information you need tomorrow.

Thanks :)

I re-did my Speed, and right away I got speeds up to 40 k's, before I was only getting 6.0.

Thanks alot mate........Great help......
