1960darrenh Posted January 13, 2008 Report Posted January 13, 2008 I have been using Utorrent for about six months and have never had any trouble until now. Since the 11th Jan 08 I have been unable to download anything. The status icons are all RED and I get about 0.1kb/s if im lucky!! I have checked my firewall which is fully allowing the program and I have ports open (like they have always been) Cleaned temp files, cookies etc, uninstalled the client and reinstalled. Nothing has made a difference. All the files im trying to download all have over 200 peers and seeders so I dont think thats the problem. The Tracker status at the bottom keeps showing as offline but I dont believe this to be true as I have tried numerous trackers and they are all offline. I have asked my friends who are using it and they have been downloading with no problems. Can someone help. Many Thanks.Darren.
c7ronaldo Posted January 13, 2008 Report Posted January 13, 2008 Bump...I have the exact problem....is your ISP Rogers by any chance?
1960darrenh Posted January 13, 2008 Author Report Posted January 13, 2008 Hi.My ISP is Tiscali in the UK. My problem actually corrected itself and started downloading (Very Slowly) for about 10 mins then all downloads stopped again, so back to square one again. All status icons are still red.
jewelisheaven Posted January 13, 2008 Report Posted January 13, 2008 If you are running a non-default Ctrl-P -> Advanced -> net.max_halfopen reset it to default.
ajones81 Posted January 13, 2008 Report Posted January 13, 2008 Did this patch (http://forum.utorrent.com/viewtopic.php?pid=296742#p296742) get installed on your system by any chance?
Mac-the-Knife Posted January 14, 2008 Report Posted January 14, 2008 I am a new member and joined basically to let everyone know that if you have installed the latest Microsoft update KB941644 then there is a good chance you will not be able to connect to trackers, this is a problem for a lot of people. I am using windows xp home edition so do not know if it affects other systems. I don't know how to post a new thread or I would post a thread informing people of this, I tried email one of the persons that runs the site to let them know but am unsure if they got the email or not. Could someone put something on the site to inform people of this problem and is there anyway that uTorrent can be configured to work with the update. I personally uninstalled said update and everything was fine, but it then means manually installing all updates as this one comes under the catagorie of critical. A message from the administrators of this site would be good so that everyone knows they are aware of the problem. Many thanks, and great program.
DreadWingKnight Posted January 14, 2008 Report Posted January 14, 2008 No.Primarily because you've been spamming it in every thread you could see that you thought might be related.Secondarily because removing that update is NOT a cure-all.Finally because the people who are having problems are likely running with net.max_halfopen above the default of 8 needlessly.
Mac-the-Knife Posted January 14, 2008 Report Posted January 14, 2008 I am only trying to be helpful, and don't think that accusing me of spamming is the answer. As I said, I only wanted to help out anyone with the same problem and although it probably won't cure every problem, I am sure it will sort a lot of them out. If you look at the posts, most of them have been over the last few days, which works out for when Microsoft put there updates on. I would have liked to have put just one thing on the site to mention this but can't seem to find anything relating to starting a thread. Anyway, sorry if I have been a pain, I won't bother to log in anymore.
1960darrenh Posted January 14, 2008 Author Report Posted January 14, 2008 Mac-the knife is completely right. I uninstalled this windows update and mine stated working again.
ajones81 Posted January 14, 2008 Report Posted January 14, 2008 @Mac-the-Knife: There is a Post New Topic link, you know? Making a single (stickied) topic would have been more than enough IMO. The info.'s helpful, but DWK's right - carpet-bombing the whole forum is probably not the way to go as you've no doubt learnt by now.
Switeck Posted January 14, 2008 Report Posted January 14, 2008 1960darrenh,Did you have half open connections set higher than 8?And did you try lowering half open connections to 4 before giving up on a Microsoft Windows update patch?
asb23uk Posted January 14, 2008 Report Posted January 14, 2008 I have had the exact same problem, i tried uninstalling that exact MS patch but no change, i am behind a university firewall but protocol encryption means i have been running utorrent for months without problems. The max half open value is 8 and I have never changed it but still i get no change. Anybody have any ideas??
ajones81 Posted January 14, 2008 Report Posted January 14, 2008 If nothing at your end's blocking connections (firewall etc.), then possibly the authorities finally wisened up? If so... :/
asb23uk Posted January 14, 2008 Report Posted January 14, 2008 Surely its not a coincidence that after i installed the update that people have had problems with, the authorities wised up?? Plus my friends can still download so its something with my computer.
ajones81 Posted January 14, 2008 Report Posted January 14, 2008 Well... If you see the link I gave above (http://forum.utorrent.com/viewtopic.php?pid=297360#p297360), the user says there were two offending updates. Did you get rid of them both and reboot?
