CrosleyQ Posted January 15, 2008 Report Posted January 15, 2008 I have a number of problems, speed being a more minor problem, but the largest problem is seeding which is indirectly causing speed problems. I have opened the port in my router and directed it to my IP address, I have disabled my firewall... Yet it still tells me that I have no incoming connections, ie. Orange connection. Now I will often get max speeds, I have a 1500/256 connection and will download at 150kb/s, so that is no problem, however the seeds will only last the first 10 minutes or so, then I lose them and wont regain them, and eventually my speed will drop back down to 20kb/s max- more often around 9-12kb/s. Yet my internet lags as though utorrent is still using most of the bandwidth and the upload speeds aren't effected. My dsl router only one port, and it is connected to another router which then connects to my computer, perhaps this is the problem? However I don't think this is the case as I had no problems up until a couple of days ago, when the computer dropped off the net, and since then I have had issues with utorrent, however nothing else. If I could receive some assistance it would be much appreciated. Thanks.
jewelisheaven Posted January 15, 2008 Report Posted January 15, 2008 It does sound like your ISP recently implemented shaping for your connection. Have there been any press releases about "network management" or "user satisfaction" during peak times? You can check your current sustained throughput with either of the testing torrents in the How-To. You may find you have to disallow legacy connections and Force encryption to get previous speeds.. or you may need to try out 1.8 self-encapsulated http://utorrent.com/faq.php#How_can_I_share_my_torrents_between_user_profiles.3F as it includes some more countermeasures to bypass ISP shaping. To ask a different question, it may also be the new patches from microsoft if you run a non-default net.max_halfopen under Ctrl-P -> Advanced. If you notice cyclic changes to the maximum sustained speeds you may be able to create a "profile" for shaping which is something to talk to your ISP about .. with your evidence they are less likely to tell you "nothing is wrong" like Comcast did until.. it blew up in their face.
protocol77 Posted January 16, 2008 Report Posted January 16, 2008 i think i am having a similar problem to this i have e-mailed you crosleyQ but basically i have been having problems with down speed when i try to upload at the same time and mine started only a couple of days ago i am with Bigpond as my ISP here is my post that i just placed on the forumhttp://forum.utorrent.com/viewtopic.php?id=34636
