troglet Posted January 16, 2008 Report Posted January 16, 2008 i downloaded the 1.7.6 update and ever since (about 10 mins ago) my torrents are slower than usual and the status has gone from yellow (no incoming connections) to red (not connectible) i assume its always on no incoming connections because i have a dynamic IP and my ISP doesn't give static IPs. anyone know how i can fix this? at least to get it back to yellow status...~EDIT~never mind fixed it back to yellow, is there anyway i can get it to green without a static IP?
Firon Posted January 16, 2008 Report Posted January 16, 2008 Use the port tester. If it says you're okay, you are.Generally, with the update, you need to re-allow it in your firewall, as they tend to silently block the update.
troglet Posted January 16, 2008 Author Report Posted January 16, 2008 i don't port forward, its to confusing, if thats what you mean... iv randomized the port a couple of times and tested it and all the time its got a error...if the only way to get green means port forwarding never mind.. ill stick with slowish yellow tyvm anyway
Firon Posted January 16, 2008 Report Posted January 16, 2008 Disable randomize ports and forward the port and allow it in your firewall. It's your best bet.
troglet Posted January 16, 2008 Author Report Posted January 16, 2008 i don't port forward, its to confusing... on the site you have to pick your modem and all that crap, my modem isn't in the list etc....
jewelisheaven Posted January 16, 2008 Report Posted January 16, 2008 Forwarding your port is a straight-forward procedure. If your network setup is like this, it's a piece of cake: ISP -> modem -> router -> computer . You do need to know several things, of which the portforward site shows pictures to help you get there. The items you need to know include YOUR LAN IP (start->run->cmd->ipconfig /all), and the port you choose to use for uT. To keep that constant you should definitley do what Firon suggests and turn off the option for "randomize port on start". The main thing the pictures for portforward.com do is show you exactly where to go. But generally speaking you only need to worry about two places "Port Forwarding" or "Virtual Server". The next thing you need to know is the IP of your router (which generally speaking is the same first 3 numbers of your LAN IP, and then a "1" replacing the 4th number. Putting in the correct inbound port (uT Port) destination port (same) and destination IP (your LAN IP) will create the rule you need. You may need to make two rules: one for the TCP protocol and one for the UDP protocol. If after that your network status indicator doesn't turn green when testing the torrents from Ultima's How-To, you may need to look through your manual for the ISP MODEM, and see where that would be. Usually it is something like 192.168.100.1 in your browser. If after logging into your MODEM you ALSO see things like port forwarding and virtual server you should check to see (call the ISP maybe if it's not in the manual) if you can set it up in "bridge mode"... that will remove the firewall on your modem which is unnecessary with your router. If you try following this and get stuck, please feel free to reply with where you got stuck and the circumstances.. a picture always helps
troglet Posted January 16, 2008 Author Report Posted January 16, 2008 dude.... seriously... you lost me after the first few words... I DON'T KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT COMPUTERS all i can do is change the RAM and stuff... and i can mount virtual drives, thats about it just never mind, ill stick with yellow and unless the router is inside the computer, i go ISP -> Modem -> HUB (so i can have 2 computers on the internet, its nothing like a router (as far as i know)) lol -> Computer
jewelisheaven Posted January 16, 2008 Report Posted January 16, 2008 If both computers mask as your ONE internet address, then the hub is a router Choosing to stop learning because your brain hurts is a valid argument. If you want to understand a bit more about how it is you can still connect to people while firewalled.. this may help http://bt.degreez.net/firewalled.html.
