abby
Hello everybody !recently I got an e-mail from my Internet Serv. Provider sayng that they have received a notice-complain stating that activities associated with my IP address are infringing copyright in material(s) owned or exclusively licensed by others. That I have utilized the above-referenced IP address at the noted date and time to offer downloads of copyrighted motion picture(s) through a "peer-to-peer" service, including such title(s) as: Shoot 'Em Up. and so on blablabla. Please, advise me what to do, how serious is this and how can I prevent this from hapening again, or to stop using uTorrent (I can't do that !!!) :-)With great respect
Switeck
If you're downloading copyrighted content (danged near everything) with uTorrent, and the owners of said content don't want you to...they can and often do pay (questionable) investigators to locate your ip and report it to your ISP as a violation. Your ISP probably isn't giving them your name and location, but instead is just passing the warning letter to you.Consider other sources of entertainment...BTW, were you using any ip blocklists and/or Peer Guardian 2? xocsucram
i got a letter like that too about 2 years ago, you're not in any trouble at that point, its kinda like a slap on the wrist, just dont contanct them,i actually stopped downloading for about a year after getting the letter, however since then i have started again, being more carefull and smart in how i do it.you're best bet is to stop using public torrent sites like torrentportal.com or piratebay.com an find private forums that have members who physically ripped the movie/music, created the torrent and trackes it privately.[edit] also as a secondary form of downloading you might wanna look into getting a paid rapidshare or megaupload account, they cost about 10 bucks for a year membership, and you can find almost anything through those sites aswell and its about as failsafe as you can get because the only thing anyone tracking your IP would know is that you're downloading a file from a filesharing site, theres nothing to be tracked.
