dasher Posted January 18, 2008 Report Posted January 18, 2008 I have been using UTorrent for a fair few years now, without any hitches.Normally any issues i have been able to resolve, like recently getting constant 'Offline' messages on ALL Trackers. This one has got the better of me, so here is my FIRST post.....Now i have something new happening which i have experienced before but that was due to the Protocol Encryption being enabled when experimenting with some settings over a year afo. This is currently off at the moment so i never enable it based on past experience. When downloading my connection to the internet (BT Broadband) will just randomly disconnect.Could be after a couple of hours, down to 20 minutes on one occasion. If i look at my router config (Belkin) it displays my connection as being 'Disconnected' so a reboot of the router fixes the issue and we are back up and running again until some random time once more.It is like as if the router is being overloaded or flooded so needs clearing.Does anyone have any idea what might be causing this? Thanks in advance.dasher
jewelisheaven Posted January 18, 2008 Report Posted January 18, 2008 Belkins aren't known for handling > 100 concurrent connections. Let me guess and say you receive incoming connections (you have your port forwarded) and have your global connections set to 200? The 2nd post in Ultima's How-To will give you steps to try and see if you can keep your router from resetting (BT owns it?) or do you mean your modem. But before that I would try limiting your connections something drastic, like 25 total and run like that for a while to see if the same thing happens.
dasher Posted January 18, 2008 Author Report Posted January 18, 2008 Cheers for that, ill drop those connections down and see what happens.Just to clear up that confusion, it is a Belkin ADSL Modem\Router (my own), and i am on BT Broadband. In terms of that 25 value, is that Global Max connections and \ or Max number connected per torrent?Ive change both for now.dasher.
Ultima Posted January 18, 2008 Report Posted January 18, 2008 Global, but yeah, if it doesn't help, check the first link in my signature for other ideas like jewelisheaven suggests.
AllGamer Posted January 18, 2008 Report Posted January 18, 2008 these are the values i use, for my brain dead router, to prevent freezing and lock upMax Global to 70, then i set the rest for 10 (peer per torrent) and 10 (slots per torrent)and then on Queueing set it for 7 active torrent, and 5 for downloadmeaning 70 / 7 = 10 so each torrent gets 10 peer/seed and 10 slots 1 for each of those peer/seedand on the Queue side it means out of 7 working torrents 5 are for download, 2 are for uploadif you change the 5 to a 3 then you'll have 3 downloads (leeching) and 4 uploads (seeding)set the Global speed accordingly to match your ISP connection, if you have a slow internet connection set your Upload speed to around 20k Bps preferably 25k Bps or more for better download speed.More upload = more download
HellasVagabond Posted January 19, 2008 Report Posted January 19, 2008 Wont at many occations More Upload speed Reduce the download speed ?
jewelisheaven Posted January 19, 2008 Report Posted January 19, 2008 How are you talking? Yes you can theoretically upload SAFELY at two limits.. one while downloading and one while only uploading. That's why in the Preferences there is "alternate upload rate when not downloading". Also if you try uploading PAST the safe threshold for your connection (90% of theoretical maximum) you may reduce the download speed due to choked upload. Generally speaking overhead will only account for 3KiBps with sane settings. People having max_halfopen of 50 and connect speed of 40 and other INsane settings may see churning of 10KiBps or more. That's why you really don't need to change the default networking settings.Edit: I always suggest (this is at the "high" end of settings) for people to put out between 5 and 10 KiBps PER PEER... that is to say take your max upload / (torrents * upload slots) >=5. I have noticed jumps from fast peers go from 20 KiBps to me @ 5 to them ---> 100 KiBps to me @ 10-15 to them. It's all about tit-for-tat
cazreed Posted January 21, 2008 Report Posted January 21, 2008 I have just bought a Netgear Rangemax (wpn824) and have Virgin Broadband. when i open U Torrent after a few mins at the most the internet disconects.I have read a lot of the other posts and have changed the global connections to 200, then to 100 but still having no luck. Can anyone help, I still have recipt so might be able to take it back- but girlfriend will not be impressed it comp has to come back downstairs.
Ultima Posted January 21, 2008 Report Posted January 21, 2008 Hm. Try out some of the other suggestions listed in the first link in my signature regarding interrupted connections.
