longshanks
I have recently lost port forwarding.I d/loaded a torrent about 3 days ago which was fine, green icon. I am now trying to d/load a torrent and have lost all incoming connections, yellow icon. I have checked port forwardnig & the site says my port is closed. The only thing I can put it down to is a windows update i did 2 days ago. The update says it has done something to the tcp/ip system. I can no longer get a green icon on any port. I am using a negear router dg824m. I haven't touched the settings since installing it about 12 months ago. Please help

jewelisheaven
... Are you running software which interferes with proper internet operations? Firewall/security software/worm protection.... rules created for previous version of uT need to be deleted and re-made. Some firewall settings can be found @ http://forum.utorrent.com/viewtopic.php?id=7862.
longshanks
I am running through a netgear router. No software firewall, except windows.I have redone rules in the router. all this is exactly the same as it has been for nearly 12 months. it suddenly isn't forwarding
Ultima
What modem are you using? Have you set a static IP up outside of your router's DHCP range when forwarding the port?
longshanks
The modem is part of the router. i have a static ip set in the routerI dont know anythin about dchp range
Ultima
You can check the router's configuration page to find out what its DHCP range is. When you do, set your static IP outside of that range. So, for example, if the range is from 192.168.1.100 to 192.168.1.149 (50 IP addresses in the range), you can try setting your static IP to something like 192.168.1.200, which is outside of that range. longshanks
my static ip was assign to me by my isp 87.127.164.14.I have been into the router settings but cannot find anywhere that says dchp. Why would this all need to be changed when it has been working perfectly for 12 months. Is it purely down the update from windows
Ultima
Uh, are you 100% sure there is no DHCP configuration in your router? Can you try setting a static IP up anyway?I'm not asking about the static WAN IP, I'm asking about the static LAN IP, which you can (and should) configure. DHCP might work well for a long time, but you aren't guaranteed to have the same IP address always as long as you're using DHCP (the D in DHCP means Dynamic, after all). It's more likely pure coincidence that you didn't manage to receive the same LAN IP again after you restarted your computer. If your LAN IP changes, the port forwarding rule won't change with your LAN IP. As such, it might be forwarded to another device that's taken that LAN IP (or might be forwarded to nothing at all if nothing is using the IP). Do set a static IP up please? longshanks
Firstly I'm sorry for being dense, but if i change my static ip from the one my isp gave me will i stiil conect to the internet. Why did you paste the " this post originally wrote"I have changed ip ad to 192.168.0.99 which is 48 above the range.I am now trying utorrent.........................restarted utorrent, still yellow, checked port forwarding, no joyHEEEEEEEEEELLLLLLLPPPPPPPPPPP
jewelisheaven
With a setup similar to this ISP -> modem -> router -> computers ... the ROUTER has your ISP assigned IP. What you're doing is setting up your stuff with DHCP or not to talk to the router, which in turn talks to your ISP MAKE SURE your modem does not have "port forwarding" or "virtual server" options... a sure sign it also has routing functions built-in. trill
ya i came here, because i have a very similar problem. After i downloaded uTorrent 1.7.6 last Friday, my port closed suddenly and has been flat lined ever since. i checked my zone alarm and router settings and it all seemed fine. the torrents are able to transfer some kilobits for 5-10 and then it goes back to 0. I applied that patch from before so I am really at a loss except maybe buy a new router and/or recheck all my settings?
jewelisheaven
Zone Alarm mangles your settings and packets. Either set it up for the new EXE since you updated by removing old rules and re-adding them to path to the new one, or uninstall it. Is there a reason you don't use Windows Firewall for your port forwarding / software firewall, as uT integrates just fine with it.For ALL places you setup forwarding rules per-program you should remove and remake them. This includes your modem, router, and firewall.
longshanks
Thanx for the help jewelisheaven. I am still d/loading but a lot slower than before and still yellow.Would it fix problem if i did a system restore. Also I am changing isp in the next 2 weeks would that help, with the new router and sett...............ok it's done.I uninstalled utorrent, took out the rules in windows firwall, reset my router to factory settings. then reinstalled it all starting with router-> utorrent-> windows firewall rulles. trill
ya i switched back to windows firewall, the port is opened and things are doing a lot better. thanx for your advice.eventually i'll go back to zone alarm and redefine the rules since i have the suite including the anti-virus and anti spy-ware. i think it's nice to have a suite rather than 3 separate programs.it's too bad that with each update i would have to make new changes, i think i'll just wait for utorent 2.0, whenever that comes out. anyways, thanks again for your help, i sincerely appreciate it.
