recently updated utorrent and started downloading something. checked to see if it was downloading, and it was downloading fine (all my ports are forwarded ect) getting the green tick like i usually do.

everythings running well so i decided ill hit up youtube to see whats new to the scene, next minute i realise firefox and IE arent connecting :S so i check to see if my internet was still connected... and it was, i also checked utorrent, and that was still downloading. i couldnt think what the problem was. so i restarted my computer, like most of the times the trusty restart did the trick. firefox and IE were fine. msn was working also. then i opened utorrent again to start up my download. then back to firefox... and wtf? not working. so i close utorrent. instant presto its working?

anyone else experiencing this?

You're setting your upload to high. Lower it and make sure you're not overloading your connection. Use your speed test results to ensure you're using the right upload limit (use the drop-down in Speed Guide xx/UPLOAD)

Posted

nah, its not that becuase its only just started happening since i updated...

my max upload speed = 40kb/s

upload speed in utorrent is set to is 15kb/s

plus when this problem occurred i wasn't even uploading, and my connection definetly wasn't overloaded because i was only downloading at 30kb/s on a 8mbit connection.

i got the same problem - and that on a SDSL-line. it happens even with 4-5 kb/s upstream (and the line is capable of about 500kb/s). it might be somehow connected with vista SP1, which i installed and got the problems afterwards.

tried another torrent-client and it woks like a charm with >300kb/s upstream. so it's definitely utorrent-connected.

- my line is fine (that's why i stated that it works with another client).

- port forwarding works (green icon, etc... and: the second client now uses the same port, works).

- none of the incompatible apps installed.

there are only two changes in the setup:

- utorrent 1.7.6

- vista SP1 RC1

to both i updated on the same day. i uninstalled utorrent first, then installed the new version.

Then you need to verify that it is indeed the settings you're using which are causing the trouble. There is a ... well I thought it was obvious... post in the How-To (#2) about setting up your uT in limited presence mode, whereby it removes most of the bottlenecks which ISPs usually act upon to enact their countermeasures.

Alternatively, if you're running a consumer router it's likely it can't handle the load you put on it. Would you mind putting up a picture of your Speed Guide settings?

Posted

it's not the router, cause it isn't a consumer product. it definitely can handle the load, cause it handles it with another bittorrent-client. it handled it with other version of uT...and so on.

there is no ISP-bottleneck, cause it's damn right working with every other torrent-client i tried. the speed settings, the connection settings, etc are all the same in the 3 clients i tried up to now.

and it's not the settings i'm using which are causing trouble because i did not change the settings in any way - as i said: the only two changes concerning the setup are: installation of vista SP1 RC1 and the new version of utorrent.

i tried to change net.max_halfopen to 4, didn't change anything, tried some of the tweaks (net.bind_ip, etc), nothing did the trick.

and i'm not complaining about slow downloads in utorrent - it's actually working quite good, but anything concerning port 80 goes to a halt, even site access in LAN. i cannot access the administration page of the router, nor any of the servers working via http - while ping and everything goes fine, smtp working, exchange working, databases working, etc. i really can't imagine that the traffic uT produces is cutting down network performance only for some services and, above all, not on a switched Gbit network.

edit: here are changes in the tcpip.sys with vista sp1 - so maybe that's the glitch.

Posted

... if all services but port 80 are unaffected it most certainly isn't a problem with uTorrent. My whole process is to REMOVE excess (insert item here). In order for you to verify something is wrong with uT, you must a) demonstrate you have TRIED the steps in the How-To at least and B) be willing to give information.

Speed Guide settings aren't national secrets and if you won't provide those I really am too tired to try and bother getting you to give me what I need to understand your situation better.

Posted

okay, step by step:

# Try disabling IP resolving in the Peers tab's context menu

check, didn't change anything.

# Try disabling DHT (Can be found in Preferences > BitTorrent)

check, didn't change anything

# Try disabling UPnP and NAT-PMP (Can be found in Preferences > Connection)

always disabled.

# Try disabling peer.resolve_country if it isn't already set to false (Can be found in Preferences > Advanced)

check, didn't change anything.

# Try lowering maximum global number of connections to 200? 100? 50? (Can be found in Preferences > BitTorrent)

check, didn't change anything.

# Try lowering net.max_halfopen to 4 (Can be found in Preferences > Advanced)

as said, tried...didn't change anything, even lowered it to 2.

i do NOT need to check if it's some ISP bottleneck, cause the downloads on utorrent are doing fine. i do not need to check if the router's able to handle the load, because it's doing right now at the moment with another torrent client.

all web pages are doing exceptionally fine until i fire up uTorrent, so it IS somehow related to uT.

the speed guide settings...yeah... they are no secret at all, but stated in my first post is that even lowering the upload speeds to 4kb/s didn't change anything. even if no torrent at all is added: the browsers stop working. but they don't if uT isn't running or another client is running. it's definitely not the speed settings, it's not half_open, not bind_ip, not (insert name here)... i googled for hours before posting and all the tweaks for uT didn't do the trick. and as stated above: why SHOULD these settings influence anything at all if it was working with these settings BEFORE. if the the engine of my car isn't starting up... i do not need to take a look at the tires.

Posted

All I can say is if those features are disabled you've got gremlins... If uT is making all those connections to lag port 80 (perhaps using process explorer and looking at the utorrent process under the spiffy TCP/IP tab is a place to start)... You're aware ESET is incompatible in default settings right? Otherwise you should check your NAT appliance which is actively blocking or does not like the new exe... you did update any custom rules you had made already for the new exe right? I'm amazed I missed this before, but the process explorer list doesn't include the vitals for uTorrent.exe. As it is right now, its a more uninformative version of HJT, lol. Could you proceed with Ctrl-L, Ctrl-D, click utorrent.exe, Ctrl-A to paste an edited logfile please (above or below is fine)?
