Old_Bean
I've read a bunch of posts asking how to reseed after moving a torrent, but none of them seem to apply to my situation. Here's the deal: everything works great with seeding until I open up iTunes and add the folder to my library. Instantly I get the message for that particular torrent saying "error, file not found in specified path" or something liket that. I have tried stopping the torrent, using the Advanced menu to "Set Download Location" to choose the new file location, but when I hit the start button, it goes from saying the torrent is "Finished" to saying that it is downloading, with 0.0% completed. So...my question is...how do I copy the folder into iTunes and listen to it and still manage to seed the torrent?
Zz200
From the files menu go to - add torrent (no defalt save) then add the torrent, on where to save give the moved adress
jewelisheaven
... or stop, right click, advanced, change download location to where iTunes moved it. Stupid iTunes.
Old_Bean
Neither thing works. I'm not supposed to set the "Download location" to where the .torrent file is located, am I? I assume I am setting where the mp3 file is located. I'm wondering if how I downloaded the torrent file matters at all. I didn't do it thru utorrent's search bar. Rather, I use the download button at the index site where I find a file. Stupid Vista asks me if I want to allow the download, I say yes, and then I specify that I want to save it on my D: drive where all my music is stored. This is so frustrating, because I want to be a good citizen and get my ratio up to 1 and above, but as it is now I can not listen to the files until the ratio gets up there, which takes forever! BTW, is it normal for my uploading to hover around 9 kB/s when I have set the upper limit at 190 kB/s? Could Norton be limiting it, even though utorrent is on the trusted program list? Oy, so many questions. Any help out there? I appreciate the help I've been given already.
DreadWingKnight
I assume I am setting where the mp3 file is located.Great, media indexer problems could come up with that.but as it is now I can not listen to the files until the ratio gets up thereGuess you need a smarter media player then.http://utorrent.com/setup_guide.php <-- follow
Old_Bean
I've lived long enough to suspect that the problem lies with me, not iTunes. There is next to nothing written about what to do when you face seeding problems. The only way I knew there was something amiss was through a seeder whose signature was, "remember you can transfer and listen to your files all while seeding." If I hadn't read that, I wouldn't have known. Maybe someone has experienced a similar difficulty with iTunes and can help me? Much appreciated!! DreadWingKnight
iTunes does a few nasty things with media files it indexes.1> Silent re-tagging without permission (this can't be turned off and causes MAJOR problems with torrents)2> Bad file locking (again, can't be turned off)
Old_Bean
Hmmmm...well, I'm not a rich man and I was given an iPod as a gift, so unless there's a way to use an iPod with another Media Player, I think I'm stuck with iTunes. DreadWingKnight
Winamp appears to have support for iPods.Additionally, you have the option of making a copy of your music for seeding and a copy for playing.
Old_Bean
I've seen that mentioned elsewhere. Do you know of a place where I can find instructions on how to copy instead of using the original in iTunes? Thanks so much for your continued attention to my questions--without a forum like this and users like you I would be dead in the water.
jewelisheaven
That's simply asinine. Shitty programs with shitty access modes create shitty problems for users I don't know what the difference between file locking and access modes is...Hey, if you want to do more poking at your system and don't mind more learning, you can check out Process Explorer from http://www.sysinternals.com and run it. When you do can verify at least the write modes of your files played/shared through iTunes... You'll want to make the window full-screen to give you lots of viewing space, then press Ctrl-L, Ctrl-H, and select itunes.exe. I'm not sure exactly what will happen as I have avoided that bloatware since the beginning, but the general idea is this. You can select certain column sortings like in uT, and view all the open files/registry/hardware things opened by the selected process. You will want to right click on the column headers and enable all the columns but you want to sort descending (down arrow) on the "(File) Share Flags". This should put all the -RW- on top, and the non-file related on the bottom. Generally speaking when reading a file it should only be R, and writing usually requires RW. uT obeys this, but many other programs don't.
Old_Bean
Good news. I took DreadWing's advice and installed Winamp 5.52 and it works like a dream. I uninstalled iTunes, which felt great!, and my problems are solved. BTW, 5.52 is free to download and has incorporated iPod syncing software into its program, so you don't need to download a separate utility for that. Man, I'm telling you, Winamp is so much smoother running and it makes everything easier. If you're having trouble with iTunes, do what I did. You won't be sorry! Thanks to DreadWing and jewelisheaven for their help.
