epiphyte
Hi,I don't have access to the router, however my connection is blocked on ports 6000..65534.This means I can only get a really slow speed on port 80, I don't have access to the router to unblock it, have you guys got any ideas of a way around this? Port 80 only seems to work and then only if no-one else is using it (although I have no way of determining that).
jewelisheaven
You don't need forwarded ports to have a running uT, but it's best to do so if possible as it increases the available peers you can connect to in a given swarm. Firewalled peers will never connect with other firewalled peers... exhibited nicely by TheShad0w @ http://bt.degreez.net/firewalled.html . If indeed it is completely blocked all is not lost. Aside from experiencing lesser connectivity, being under a shaping profile (that is certain traffic isn't given your FULL bandwidth) can hinder your torrent transfers. You'll notice this if your settings from the Speed Guide for your connection aren't matching up. Verifying with a test run of OpenOffice from http://distribution.openoffice.org/p2p/ is a good idea. Afterwards, testing a self-encapsulated 1.8 install may show faster sustained transfer with the same settings.
