LOW SPEED - The truth!

Hello guys,

I'm new at the forum but I use UTorrent since a long time now. I'm really upset with my download speeds as I've tried everything and it keeps RIDICULOUSLY LOW!

The online speed test gave me an download speed about 2 ~ 2.5 Mb/s and an upload speed around 350 Kb/s - which is a good amount for me - but usually I only get around 5 Kb/s, lower than this most of the time! I've tried forwarding ports, changing the program settings, and one thing I've noticed is that IF YOU CHOOSE TO SET THE UPLOAD BANDWIDTH ANYTHING DIFFERENT FROM UNLIMITED, it drops your download speed dramatically. Since I've seen this happen twice, now I just leave it unlimited. But this "solution" doesn't make any difference anymore! I've tried to uninstall the program several times, which worked for the first hours - I could get 50 ~ 100 Kb/s, and then it dropped to Maximum 10 Kb/s again, even with high-seeded torrents.

IS THERE ANY BEST CONFIGURATION REGARDING THE PROGRAM SETTINGS THAT WOULD IMPROVE MY SPEED?

I've tested my download speed with OpenOffice.org as suggested in other forums, but I've got around 6.5 Kb/s (Availability 24.583) - and I've read that with that torrent and my speed I should reach about 140 Kb/s!!!

I'm running UTorrent 1.8 Beta on Windows Vista Home Premium (AMD Turion 64 x 2 Mobile Tecnology - 1.90 GHz / 2 Mb RAM - Wireless Connection).

HELP!

Thanks,

Speedtest of 2.5 Mbit down ~ 300 KiBps in uT, and 384 Kbps down = 48 KiBps... of which you can expect 80-90% of that THEORETICAL MAXIMUM. Unlimited chokes your connection, further limiting your download. What is your encryption setting under Ctrl-P -> BitTorrent ? You may have to try forced and disallow legacy connections.... also it depends whether you are on a shaping profile or limited cap due to violation of AUP or FUP bandwidth limits. Checking OOo for 1-3 minutes every hour you want to check will suffice.

I've downloaded the latest stable version of Torrent (1.7.7) to see if anything changes, but it still keeps my download speed low... My ISP is BT Broadband - YES, I've seen it as a blacklisted ISP but I've reached 400 kb/s already using the same connection (unfortunately it haven't lasted long, but at least 15 min) - so I don't know what is happening NOW that keeps my download speed so low. : (

The average DS during the day was around 15 kb/s, increasing during off-peak hours to 50kb/s at least. I want my speed back!

Any suggestion?

Thanks,

Test OpenOffice. If it works @ 400 all day, then it's the swarm's peers you're connecting to not being fast enough. If it doesn't, then you're being shaped. 15 KiBps dring daylight & 50 KiBps during nighttime sounds like a pretty logical shaping profile your ISP would use. You could always try the in-development 1.8 uT self-encapsulated to see if that gets you more speed.. but it doesn't work on all ISPs
