Losing Connection

Can somebody help me please.

I have set up my computers using Netgear 834G V3 router/modem and using Netgear WPN111 adapters on Windows XP home edition. All is working well on the internet until I turn on Utorrent and I lose my connection within about 3 to 5 minutes after downloading starts. I have tried various things such as power cycling the router, uninstalling and reinstalling, reduced the mtu size to 1400 as per AOL but cannot seem to get this downloading right.

I know there are many techy guys out there but please make the advice as simple as possible to follow

many thanks

I have tried the following but still the same issue

Set up UTorrent (my speed is 6mb so had to set it to 2mb)

Port forward (This has now got rid of the NAT Issue)

Ran with Firewall off

Downloaded open office which came down very quickly (is this just a speed test thing) - didn't crash during this download

Run the internet for as long as I like without issue and can have UTorrent open but as soon as I start the downloads it gets up to speed then loses the internet connection within about 3 minutes

Followed the common procedures

Installed a windows patch

Please help !

Reduce concurrent connections. Disable extra features which add load but not utility to downloading. (Post # 2 in the How-To)... The two most common reasons for the ISPs hardware to reset is due to too many connections and too much upload being sent out. You can try limiting your upload more (reduce by 10% at a time is a wise bet)... but even with limited settings some outage is possible (i have 97% uptime with 10sec outages every 10 minutes).

Bivyman,

Your connection as far as uTorrent is concerned isn't xx/2mbit...it's probably something awful like xx/256k or slower. uTorrent wants to know your UPLOAD speed max, which is likely 1/10th your download speed max OR LESS!

I have reduced connections as stated in the how to section but each time I go back in many options seem to reset themselves. I followed every bit of post No 2 in the how to section.

I changed my upload as stated after running a test which showed that download was at about 6mb and upload at about 3mb which after the calculations I changed the figure from 186 which was set in the software to just 33.

Not sure what you mean about outages. If you mean this is where the internet disconnects then mine will not reconnect once it has disconnected other than pulling out the wireless adapter and plugging it back in again.

Ok still been playing about with the settings and it now seems to be downloading ok as the internet has nopt crashed for several hours which is a first. Its maybe of no use but after following all the guides I was sent above and doing the port forwarding etc here are the settings that I have in Utorrent

CONNECTION Port forward a port

Randomize port each time Utorrent starts untick

Enable UPnP port mapping untick

Enable NAT-PMP port mapping untick

Add UTorrent to windows firewall exception tick

Global bandwidth Limiting 33

BITORRENT Global maximum connections 50

Maximum number of connected peers to torrent 10

Number of upload slots per torrent 8

Use additional upload slots if required tick

Enable DHT Network untick

Enable DHT for new torrents untick

Enable Local Peer Discovery tick

Ask tracker for scrape info tick

Enable peer exchange tick

Limit local peer bandwidth untick

Protocol Encryption enabled and tick allow incoming...

like I say its maybe of no use to alot of people but it has worked for me so maybe worth trying.

thanks for your help getting me on the right track anyway

2 days later still working fine but the only problem encountering now is that Utorrent keeps resetting the changes I have made and so I have to check them each time I open it.
