Please help! I'm trying to port forward my router but it won't work.

I've tried going to portforward.com and have followed all the instructions but it just won't work. :( I have a Linksys WRT54G with the latest firmware. Please help!

Go into your router page web page, go to application and gaming, and write there the port that uTorrent is using. Then make sure you write your LAN IP adress and check enable. Place both TCP and UDP. It should work now. Also make sure your firewall is not blocking that port too.

additionally you might want to consider upgrading your WRT54G

to run with DD-WRT or Tomato firmware

they are both excellent for Linksys

turns them into Super Router! :D

the original Linksys firmware has a lot of bugs, and is bad in general for Torrenting, even if you do manage to port forward it properly.

Thanks but port forwardiing still won't work. I still get the yellow triangle and the port checker still gets an error. Any more suggestions?

Also is DD-WRT or Tomato firmware difficult to set up?

IF YOU HAVE A V5 WRT54G DON'T INSTALL DD-WRT v24! I know it's not exactly finished yet, but just in case you get the idea, don't. I got a lot of spontaneous reboots, use v23 SP2. As for installing it, as long as you follow the instructions correctly you shouldn't have a problem, you'll need to check your router version, hopefully you have an older version, which has more memory, not like the pos v5 sitting in my house because the old one (v4?) was fried.

Also, since you have a router, I recommend disabling the windows firewall. If you insist on keeping it though, Start > Control Panel > Network Connections > right-click, properties on your Internet connection > advanced tab > Windows Firewall (Settings...) > off button :P, or Exceptions tab, and "µTorrent" should be on the list.

I'm not sure what version router I have. I bought it new about a month ago.

I checked my firewall and it said that µTorrent was on the exceptions list. Just to be safe I disabled firewall too. My port still won't open and I still get the yellow triangle error, sometimes the red one, too.

Process Explorer list with µT DLL list (click on µT in Process Explorer, press Ctrl+D, followed by Ctrl+A. I can't guarantee I'll be able to help, but I'll try for the hell of it).

2 things

1. You say you're still getting the yellow triangle. Go to uT->Options->Speed Guide and click the "Test if port is forwarded properly" and see what says.

2. In your router GTHK said to set it to Both. I had been getting a bunch of random disconnects while torrents were running. This happened on 2 different routers. After getting the 2nd router, Linksys, and see it happen there I did some searching. At the time I had no idea it was the torrents causing it.

At any rate in the search I found a topic at Linksys forums where they narrowed it down to Port Forwarding and torrents and the fix was to set it to TCP. Using Both or UDP the problem came back.

Both never gave me a problem, using the latest firmware of the time till I switched to DD-WRT, also, high amounts of connections seem to cause random disconnect+restarts, not having UDP would prevent DHT requests, but I just lowered the amount of connections used and it's fine.

And yeah, use the port test in the speed guide, if it says ok on the website and the icon in µT changes to a green check it's fine.

I have a WRT54g V1.1 (current firmware) that has been working without issue for several years. Just the other day I added an additional port to my forwarding list. Save the settings and went back to working on other things.

The next day I checked my forwarded ports and none of them were working. I did the checking from a remote location so I had no course of action at that time.

When I got home I thought I might need to power cycle the router, which I did. Great news, now my gateway is not working and no connection to the outside world. After troubleshooting for an hour I did a complete reset on the router and the internet returned.

Now I reenter my port forwarding information and click save settings. Using an outside port checked I find that ONLY ONE forwarded port is working - Grip Hair, Pull, Repeat. Power cycle again - no traffic in or out from the internet. Intra-net works great!?

First birthday the router again and this time only added one forwarder to the table. Save settings - working. Got really brave and added a second forwarder entry. Click save and YAHOOOOO it works!!!!

So I said all that to say that once my router seemed to lose its forwarding mind I only had one option, the reset button.

So, Reset to factory (save your config information first) and then try adding one entry at a time to the forwarding table.

Good Luck and I hope this saves someone from pulling too much hair.
