Port Forwarding still doesn't work. Any suggestions/Help please?

Hey, I still can't past the utorrent port forwarding test. I get "error"

I've followed the guide, and checked it over nigh a dozen times, and set up both my static ip and port forwarding.

However, I still fail the test. It looks perfect according to the guides.

My model of linksy IS wrt54GS ("Wireless broadband router with speedboost" but the status page says Firmware version 2.07.1. I may be mistaken, but I think that that rules out the specific router problem.

My provider is Verizon Fios.

I tried turning off Kiero personal firewall.

I tried the am2 cpu drivers since there was a post about them.

But I still have problems, and no idea why I fail the port forwarding?

Any clues or help would be really cool and appreciated!

Thanks

The guide refers to

http://www.portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/Linksys/WRT54GS/Utorrent.htm

And the test refers to

http://www.utorrent.com/testport.php?port=40985

Have you checked to see if your router firmware is the latest firmware for that model? I wouldn't rely on that test you just post on the second link it didn't work for me either but I have my Router port forwarding and working. Maybe you should try a torrent file like open office and download to see if it works first on how fast your speed is going then go to Options--Speed Guide and change the settings there to match your Cable or DSL line bandwidth...I notice this improve my download and upload from like .1 kB/s to 30 kB/s all cause I didn't set the Speed Guide correctly....

How fast should it be going?

I can still download torrents, I get slow speeds though.

There's not version number next to the product model. I'm sending off an email to linksys support to ask them what it means. (what is my version number).

I see now the problem relates to version number, not firmware version so I could have the problem.

BUT the problem shouldn't be with port forwarding anyway...:(

__________________________________________________________

I've looked at the firmware options. Apparently I have v1 of the router.

These updates might apply to my problem.

Firmware 4.70.8

- Resolves issue where DMZ doesn't work if Port forwarding is enabled

- Resolves issue where DynDNS Custom and Static accounts cannot be used

Firmware 4.70.6

- Resolves issue with port based QoS

Firmware 4.50.6

- Resolves large file transfer issues

- Updated QoS features

Firmware 3.17.4

- Resolves issue with disabling firewall

- Added QoS function under Applications and Gaming tab

- Added Port Triggering function under Application and Gaming tab

- Added ability to filter internal NAT redirection

So will it help if I update firmware anyone think?

What speeds are you getting? Also what kinda bandwidth subscription do you currently have? I have DSL and max download I can go 50 kB/s....download....if we know what speed and bandwidth type you have that could help us determine what to look for???

What speeds are you getting?

Edit:

Ok, So it says 26(27) seeds. 0(262) peers. Down speed 400-700kbs. Seeds keep increasing they're at 41/42 now. This is a good speed, i think. But, I presently have port forwarding disabled. Are there any other port forwarding tests? [Most torrents I get much lower. Azeurus used to show the yellow "nat problem"

Oh, and pius you probably failed the linked test i showed because it was for the specific random port I was using. You'd have to set it for yours.

So we have the high end "fiber optics" plan with verizon. My Ethernet connection lists 100mbs but I'm pretty sure that's limited by the cable.

According to the dslreports java test i get 4680kbs downloads, and 1880kbs uploads.

When I look at the other reported tests, I should be getting 30mbs down, 5mbs down.

But I can't be complaining. It's the bittorenting that's too slow.

When I was seeding the OoO earlier I think it was hitting 124 for uploading, but I didn't see it higher.

I'm still Failing. the port forwarding tests though :(

I have NO idea what I could be doing wrong there. I've checked the guide several times, I followed all steps should be all set. even steps like disabling the router firewall because the pictured one was disabled.

There can be more than one firewall blocking uTorrent.

Have you also checked to see if your modem contains a mini-router or firewall that needs to be disabled or configured?

My computer firewall has been off when I did the tests (and I tried them when it was on).

My router firewall was off.

How would I access or determine if there were any other firewalls? I suspect you could be right, though. There's another small block that seems to be connected (not the ups). It's a silver thing is I can recall (not at it atm) that's about 5 inches by 1 by 2.5.

Well, I was meaning software firewalls.

Stuff like antivirus, antispyware, and standard firewall software are all extremely likely to be firewalls.

Networking drivers may even have low-grade, minimal firewall features.

Color and shape of a computer device will not help me determine what's inside. :P

...though it's probably a red-herring.

"I tried turning off Kiero personal firewall."

Did you try completely uninstalling it?

Posted

No, I didn't bother completely uninstalling it. I know which processes it is, and made sure they're disabled. If you meant software, no, there's no software firewall.

Posted

Oh! I did not know that. Sneaky svchost. =-/ (or at least I think svchost.

So I need to uninstall? I loathe to do so since I don't remember my product id I actually have the paid version.

But I'm sorry to be so sluggish in response to the information, though.

I hope there's some way to disable any functions of the firewall without uninstalling it? I can go send an email to their tech support, if they have it I'll quickly check. I've looked through preferences couldn't find with my inexperience anything to be stopping port forwarding. I didn't find any purchase info in my gmail either.

If you can't find a password recovery method, don't uninstall the software firewall.

Ask at their website how to configure it.

...Or search more around the web.

I think there's a firewall configuration message thread on this website somewhere, so try searching for it.

If you want to disable the DLL then download 'Autoruns'. A supreme app that access's just about everything running on your pc.

Process explorer is also another of their great products. Oh, they are free too. ;-)

Indeed there is a software firewalls thread, but it needs updating / more info for the "popular" firewalls to become more useful IMNSHO. Autoruns is good and it gets everywhere... but msconfig will do just as good a job at allowing you to turn off unwanted entries. And of course Process Explorer is good for diagnosing troubles. It's in the How-To ;)

I'm sorry to say I had given up. It's not that you guys hadn't offered help, but that most things weren't working and I didn't want to spend hours and hours for no solution.

This week I have exams but next week (break :)) I will really try the three or so ideas here. In fact, I'll send the email to keiro now if I can since it'll presumably take time to respond.
