Animorc
You should resize the statuscolumn so that you can read the whole message. It would be easier to troubleshoot it then. Just doubleclick between the statuscolumn header and the one to the right of it when the message appears.

The full message reads "The system cannot find the path specified".But with other files that I downloaded at the same time, there is no trouble. Firon
Turn off compact allocation if it's on.Try saving the torrent in a folder closer to the drive's root (windows has a limitation on path length)
splintax
I had this problem once, and moving it to a subdirectory of c:\ fixed the problem. The file had a 50-character file name or something, and was already under c:\documents and settings\me\my documents\bittorrent\download folder.. reuven
I have carried what has been advised but with no success. I also deleted the torrent files and reloaded to C:\ torrents .I get from 2 to 7 0r more peers, but soon afterwards I get the same message, and in addition on some other files there is a message " cannot find FILE specified" So is there a solution.? Please help,Merged Post(s):I am posting again. I start to download 2 files of various sizes. 3 and more peers, all downloading. After a few seconds there is error mesage "system cannot find file specified" I can keep on repeating this procedure, and one of the files has got up to 2.5% done and the other 1.0% done. If it was any thing to do with a long file name, or if the file could not be found, no downloading would start at all. So if there is explanation or cure please let me know. At the moment I have to keep force starting these files, which means staying with the computer, night and day for several days!!!EDIT by silverfire: The edit link exists for a very good reason. Firon
Is this torrent one you had loaded before you moved to 1.3?And actually, it would download a bit, for about 30 seconds tops. Are you saving across the network? If you are, don't. Map the drive to a letter first.
reuven
I hve never used any version but 1.3. As I am rather new to downloading toorrents. Please explain " saving across network" and "mapping drive to a letter first'.
Firon
\\192.168.1.2\C$\ is an example of a network path.F:\Torrents\ is a local path.Which kind are you saving to? What OS are you on? What is your drive formatted as (NTFS or FAT32)?
reuven
I am only using local path. Windows98se. Fat 32. It doen't seem to be any thing to do with size of files, some large files download without any trouble, and with files much smaller there is this trouble.. Other users using Windows98se, that I know of, don't seem to have the same difficulty

When I start to download a new file. Does that mean the tracker is not looking for any peers?
Firon
The foldername just might be too long for your system. And I said clicking on the Files tab in µTorrent, as well as copying the name (I guess copy what's next to Save As).Tracker status offline means the tracker is inaccessible. reuven
So is there a solution for win98?
Firon
Put the folder in C:\, rename the folder to something really short (like 1), and use right click -> "Set download location" to point µTorrent to the renamed folder.

Garry James
Go back to a previous restore point in system restore. restore points are dated and timed so go back to the time before you restored your system
