Could someone explain the "fake bitcomet" thing to me please?

When seeding a file I've noticed clients listed as "fake bitcomet". When I try to do a search for the IP#'s that are listed for this client they come back as not found. This concerns me a bit and I was wondering if someone could point me in the right direction for information about what this is.

Thanks in advance for any help you all can give me.

Thanks for the explanation on the clients.

As far as the IP numbers, I've found that each of the numbers that these "fake bitcomet" clients are using (this is a private tracker) are not members of the tracker. All of the IP's come back to Egypt. I'm not sure if the hacked/modified clients are reporting a fake IP number, but that is what it looks like to me.

I thought Fake Bitcomet = Bitspirit.

Has anyone ever seen Bitspirit as a peer? I know that many of the Fake Bitcomets i see are from places like China, and that they use Bitspirit more over there than they do here.

No, I've never seen a BitSpirit seed/peer...maybe you're right, maybe Fake BitComet does include BitSpirit as well. Firon will probably have to clear this up for us. :/

BitComet/0101 is BitLord, not BitComet.

Patched/hacked BitComets that can spoof ("Fake BitComet")and BitSpirit have the same similarity in their client IDs regardless of if they're spoofing (which is how you can tell what they are), which is no surprise because BitSpirit can also spoof it's client ID.
