twiggs396 Posted February 17, 2008 Report Posted February 17, 2008 just a quick question, if you do port forwarding and so have a static ip address. if you file share on utorrent are you more likely to get caught because of a static ip
DreadWingKnight Posted February 17, 2008 Report Posted February 17, 2008 No, you're not any more or less likely to get caught.
Ultima Posted February 17, 2008 Report Posted February 17, 2008 When you set up a static IP, you're setting it up only for your private, internal LAN IP. It has nothing to do with your public, external WAN IP (which only your ISP can control). Setting up a static LAN IP won't make you any more or less susceptible to getting caught/identified.Edit: Heh, DWK
canswim99 Posted February 21, 2008 Report Posted February 21, 2008 any tips for reducing your chances of getting caught? can i mask my IP or something?
Switeck Posted February 21, 2008 Report Posted February 21, 2008 Don't use torrents to download files...they are designed to tell anyone and everyone connected to the tracker your ip address. You can BLOCK those "hostile" ips from connecting to you, BUT they still gather your ip from the tracker and other peers/seeds. C&D letters have been sent without the monitoring companies even bothering to connect to reported ips to see if they are really on those torrents.
