Nico57 Posted February 17, 2008 Report Posted February 17, 2008 Hi all. When a multi-file torrent happens to have an incomplete file and you finally get this file from another source, is there a way to get it back it the whole thing without re-checking it all ?Re-checking a multi-gigabyte torrent can take some time, and there's no "re-check" option on the files context menu...
jewelisheaven Posted February 17, 2008 Report Posted February 17, 2008 ? When you get a file 100% via bittorrent it's complete. That's the whole purpose of the piece hashing. Whether a file is set to skipped (creating a partially complete torrent) or not when you stop, right click, force recheck it goes through ALL the torrent's files. How fast are you hashing data on your drive? (you can use the nifty Process Explorer from sysinternals.com to find out if using Speed tab -> Disk Statistics hashes / second * piecesize isn't to your liking.
Nico57 Posted February 18, 2008 Author Report Posted February 18, 2008 Re-checking the whole torrent has an other drawback (apart from speed): partially downloaded pieces will be lost and will have to be downloaded again.A per-file re-check would definitely be useful.
Lord Alderaan Posted February 18, 2008 Report Posted February 18, 2008 No, you cannot check a single file. For a torrent there are no files, only pieces. The option to check single pieces is not available however. You could request it in the requests forum and if enough people agree with you the devs might consider it (first read the request rules carefully ofc).If you choose to skip files overlapping pieces will be saved in a partfile (by default). Re-checking that torrent after it is was completed will result in a 100% unless something is corrupted or deleted. However, if you removed and then re-added the torrent to µtorrent it forgets which files you have skipped and re-checking might have strange results in that case.
Ultima Posted February 18, 2008 Report Posted February 18, 2008 He shouldn't make a new request in the Feature Requests forum because it was requested/rejected before.
