1.7.7 filling up RAM

Hi,

I've never had a problem with this with earlier versions (<1.7.6) but with a cachelimit on 100MB utorrent is filling up 4GB of RAM. And then it's time to restart utorrent since everything is going slow. It seems it never truncate/purge it.

fyi, it's a q6600@3150Mhz, and the storagedisk is a Seagate 7200.11 .. Shouldn't even need to cache that amount at all.

I'm also as the other ppl that got probs running Vista ultimate x64. Maybe it's a hint that's the memory parameters wont work when running under Vista?

Ctagent injected (not previously reported problem though). You expect iid.exe to be in a system folder? Could it be avast is bleeding RAM while scanning?

And you're sure this is uT using the ram not windows cacheing? In Task Manager it shows that much allocated ram, not virtual ram?

Yes I expect iid.exe to be there. Same problem even if I deactivate avast. And no it is not virtual ram.

Well, even if it is Vista cache, it only makes a problem with utorrent. Everytime a torrent it finnished the RAM is flushed, but when downloading a BIG torrent (bigger than availible RAM it doesn't get flushed and fills up the RAM. Shouldn't every part be flushed from the memory when it is finnished, and not wait until the whole torrent is finnished?

edit: and also, it still consumes all memory and make's the computer slow as hell, took 3 min to get taskmanager up last time, so I could kill the utorrent process.. And wolla, everything got back to normal. But I've as I said before, never needed to do this before 1.7.6

I've used avast under 2-3 years now I think. And I've never had any problems with utorrent and avast before. When I say deactivated, its deactivated and processes are killed.

And utorrent.exe is having about 4500-5000 hardfaults/min (trying to access something in memory that already been written to disk and purged from memory (if I understand it correctly?))

Processes killed is NOT the same as hooks removed. Uninstall is the ONLY way to properly deactivate 3rd party antivirus and firewall software.

Well no it aint, but when it's unchecked from startup with msconfig it dont start and should remove some of the hooks. Sure I can try it, but it feels more like a reach for something that isn't there. The problem lies in compability between vista x64 and utorrent 1.7.7...

True, true.. But it was not avast, running without it now, YES UNINSTALLED. So now I have to install it again. On my laptop i'm running xp, also with avast. Got no issues at all.

It doesnt crash or so, but when it fills my RAM to 98%, Everything runs like the computer was made of gello.. Going to reinstall avast now and check if I can limit the amount of data cached somehow..

Hey, why not try using 1.8 (available in the Announcements forum) with the same settings as you have... you'll want to copy the settings.dat to a self-encapsulated uT 1.8 so it doesn't mess with your 1.7 settings. Then under Ctrl-P -> Advanced -> Disk Cache disable write cacheing. That will definitely say whether it's windows cache. Otherwise if the RAM usage continues, it is an Incompatible Software and must be diagnosed as such (continue removing software until the problem no longer persists)... :/

With the 1.8 BETA, by default the windows write cache is disabled in utorrent. Works like a charm. The RAM do not fill up at all and utorrent is only making about 100-160 hard faults /min if you check in resource monitor in vista. With 1.7.7 where this option doesn't exist it makes 4000-6000 hardfaults /min and filling up my RAM to 98% making the computer run like it was made of jello.
