Port Forward Crash

Hi all

I have recently installed uTorrent and followed all the instructions in the setup guide. I did a through search of the forum and only found one other problem that seems to be similar to mine.

When I run the s/w it is fine, when I forward the port on my router it begins crashing (uTorrent) almost immeadiately. When the port is not forwarded I can still download and I am getting good speeds to a point (not sure what) then uTorrent locks up, and again crashes. I was running a firewall (Norton) which I removed because I thought that was the problem, obviously not.

If your router cannot handle the number of connections you need to limit your Ctrl-G Speed Guide settings more I think.

So you've got 1.5 Mbit upload? and you upload in uT > 100 KiBps?

Yeah those settings are good, even 5 KiBps per slot Which is heaven for people who can use it. Truthfully though you will only realistically get to ~ 30 peers with the default settings before they disconnect so, could you try limiting the connections per torrent to 50 or 25? Is there a way you can login to your router and actively see connections on it? What make/model is it and does it have the most up-to-date firmware or a 3rd party one?

I can login, but it is a DLink 604 and provided to me from verizon (it stays with the house when I move, they wired the entire thing with cat 5). I am not sure if you can view the active connections. On a lark I limited the global connections to 250 but I am seeing 293 active nodes (number still going up). Not sure on the firmware, but I think it is up to date.

*edit* I just updated to latest firmware from verizon... I will try uTorrent again and see if it works.

*edit2* ok so new firmware on router and no joy, still crashing.

I could do with some help - have just joined o2 broadband and the configuration options for setting up portforwarding don't seem to be there and can't get utorrent working properly - please help!

@Smith: D-Links are known to be crap, I knew Verizon provided routers, but D-Links? Ew >.<. Can you try bypassing the D-Link? If it works like that, then that D-Link is crap. Also, Process Explorer w/ DLL list log, instructions here, second step.
