greatgonk
first timer post.i was reading about using a port outside of the expected range to get around potential blocking issues of vista / isp.anyway, the upshot was that i reconfigured my modem (dsl-604t) following portforward.com instructions for my modem - i defined port 30489 in the modem and config'd utorrent to only use 30489. i then rebooted the modem.i have checked the listening options in utorrent as enable upnp, enable nat-pmp port mapping and add to win firewall exceptions.so i thought i'd check the netstat command to see whether the connections were then comming in via 30489.Active Connections Proto Local Address Foreign Address State TCP 0.0.0.0:80 0.0.0.0:0 LISTENING TCP 0.0.0.0:135 0.0.0.0:0 LISTENING TCP 0.0.0.0:443 0.0.0.0:0 LISTENING TCP 0.0.0.0:3389 0.0.0.0:0 LISTENING TCP 0.0.0.0:30489 0.0.0.0:0 LISTENING TCP 0.0.0.0:48749 0.0.0.0:0 LISTENING TCP 0.0.0.0:49152 0.0.0.0:0 LISTENING TCP 0.0.0.0:49153 0.0.0.0:0 LISTENING TCP 0.0.0.0:49154 0.0.0.0:0 LISTENING TCP 0.0.0.0:49156 0.0.0.0:0 LISTENING TCP 0.0.0.0:49157 0.0.0.0:0 LISTENING TCP 0.0.0.0:49158 0.0.0.0:0 LISTENING TCP 10.1.1.5:139 0.0.0.0:0 LISTENING TCP 10.1.1.5:49165 75.63.14.19:38635 ESTABLISHED TCP 10.1.1.5:49245 124.168.34.60:49156 ESTABLISHED *** TCP 10.1.1.5:49409 74.125.19.83:80 ESTABLISHED TCP 10.1.1.5:49420 71.60.108.88:42637 ESTABLISHED *** TCP 10.1.1.5:49427 210.55.204.215:80 ESTABLISHED TCP 10.1.1.5:49429 210.55.204.217:80 ESTABLISHED TCP 10.1.1.5:49431 74.125.19.83:80 CLOSE_WAIT TCP 127.0.0.1:49202 127.0.0.1:49203 ESTABLISHED TCP 127.0.0.1:49203 127.0.0.1:49202 ESTABLISHED TCP 127.0.0.1:49204 127.0.0.1:49205 ESTABLISHED TCP 127.0.0.1:49205 127.0.0.1:49204 ESTABLISHEDthe asterisked lines were the actual connections. the port i'd defined - 30489 - is only listening... i am thinking that i probably needed to define a range of ports in my modem???So, how can i set things up so that connections for utorrent only come in via the port(s) i define?i am on vista home premium although i suspect that is actually irrelevantcheers for any help provided
jewelisheaven
Those are all outbound connections. If you forward ports, you don't need the NAT-PMP and UPnP. Are you sure the port and IP match your data? You can find your current LAN IP with start->run->cmd /k ipconfig /all
greatgonk
have run the ipconfig /all and the only ip address i get is the 10.1.1.5... am not sure what you mean by does the port and ip match your data?have also just done the netstat -an again and 124.168.34.60:49156 is the only connection i have in utorrent that is currently active and i am downloading from them... so how is this an outgoing connection... sorry am still fairly new to the world of networking.cheers
jewelisheaven
Right. Your IP is 10.x.x.x which is private reserved Class A. You are on a LARGE lan, which means you will not be able to forward. It is outgoing BECAUSE you cannot forward the port. If it was inbound, it would be bound to your listening port. :/
