buyo Posted February 29, 2008 Report Posted February 29, 2008 Ok first of all let me tell you that I hadn't have any problem with utorrent until now, everything worked perfectly and connection status button was always green, but today it got red and I can't make it go green no matter what, I don't have ANY firewall, except the one that comes with windows vista, and utorrent is in that list where it lets connections to certain programs, still port checker says its no good, I DISABLED the windows firewall, still... no good, I don't know what else to do, HELP!EDIT.Forgot to say that I got a surfboard modem.
jewelisheaven Posted February 29, 2008 Report Posted February 29, 2008 It's possible the setup on your modem changed. Have you logged into it to find out?? Additionally as the How-To suggests how do OpenOffice Torrents perform... what behaviour do they show?
buyo Posted February 29, 2008 Author Report Posted February 29, 2008 I didn't get the last part of your post... behaviour of torrents? well... the upload speed it's ok, but the download speed is the one that doesn't get above 20, when yesterday and always, it went to like 120 all the time. I really don't know what changed since I don't even have a firewall
Ultima Posted February 29, 2008 Report Posted February 29, 2008 Did you set a static IP up outside of your router's DHCP range when you forwarded your port?
jewelisheaven Posted February 29, 2008 Report Posted February 29, 2008 If the OOo doesn't download @ your expected 100 KiBps, you may have internet disruption. . . Search around for news on your ISp / area, and it may resolve itself after overnight. If not, you may start trying to follow the steps in How-To post #2 for limiting your presence... and making sure all your bittorrent traffic is encrypted (Ctrl-P -> BitTorrent) forced encryption and disallow legacy connections. ... If this still persists it sounds like your ISP implemented some hefty $$ shaping profiles and hardware in your area which there is nothing you can do about it... unless you want to try about the in-development 1.8 uT version from the Announcements forum.
buyo Posted February 29, 2008 Author Report Posted February 29, 2008 I didn't forward any port, I mean... when I started used utorrent, I just downloaded it, added it to windows firewall and that's it, green all the time until now, I enabled encryption too and nothing, button is still red.
Ultima Posted February 29, 2008 Report Posted February 29, 2008 Are you using any router? If not, and the SurfBoard is the only thing connected to your computer network-wise, then you're probably going to have to switch modems.
buyo Posted February 29, 2008 Author Report Posted February 29, 2008 No router, just the surfboard... I think I'm done unless this problem fixes itself, also... when I try to check the port it saysError! Port 57836 does not appear to be open. But when I use netstat -a in that command window, it DOES list that port as LISTENING, so I don't know whats going on
jewelisheaven Posted February 29, 2008 Report Posted February 29, 2008 The tester is trying to establish connection on your port. When there is an impediment, it lists as error or closed depending on the tester. That is separate from your LISTENING The listening means that's the port you use for the forwarding rules.
pump48847 Posted February 29, 2008 Report Posted February 29, 2008 I am running Vista SP1 and I just incurred the same problem. I just got this new computer set up on Monday and everything was running fine with the green circle with the check mark stating my connection was good. I had the port forwarded in my router and in Windows Firewall. Then last night the red circle appeared. I have been extremely frustrated all night. Today I was doing some reading and I deleted the forwarded port from both Windows firewall and my router then forwarded the same port again. Low and behold the green circle with the check mark reappeared. If you are not sure how to forward a specific port in Windows firewall then here you go:Click on Start and then click on Control Panel. In Control Panel click on Firewall.Once that opens click on Change SettingsOnce the Windows Firewall Setting window opens click on the tab ExceptionsNow click on Add Port near the bottom.Give the port a name eg. (Utor1, etc) then input the port number that is being used by your Utorrent program. If you are unsure which port that is then open utorrent, click on the preferences sprocket on the tool bar, click on connections from the list on the left and the port number will be near the top right side of the window. Make sure Randomize port each time utorrent starts is ***NOT*** selected. Now you can go back to the Windows Firewall Settings window and input the port number (make sure the port is numbered above 10000). And now click on ok. That specific port is now open for your utorrent program to use. I hope this helps you, it did fix my problem this morning.
buyo Posted February 29, 2008 Author Report Posted February 29, 2008 Still no good, I did what the last post sugested, I guess my utorrent days are oveeeeer, noooooooooooUDPDATE.I plugged in my 2nd computer and got utorrent running and still no green indicator, so I'm guessing my ISP is screwing me up , is there anything I can do?
jumbo5 Posted March 27, 2008 Report Posted March 27, 2008 Same problem here.No firewall. The indicator was green for the last 15 months, suddenly today it is red.
