doomdragon66 Posted March 1, 2008 Report Posted March 1, 2008 I am on a windows vista home premium os and have bell sympatico as my isp. I have the speedstream 5200 as my modem, which does not have a firewall. I don't even have my router plugged in when trying to connect to a torrent.I am directly connected to my modem and can't seem to get incoming connections. The light is always yellow. I have windows firewall turned off and i don't have any other security programs on. The torrent file i am downloading has over 500 seeds and 500 leechers, so that is not the problem.I have also tried using my router and have setted static ips, portforwarding, port triggering etc. I have also tried reverting back my static ip back into the normal ip that i originally had and it's still not working. The utorrent client version is 1.7.7. My old desktop used to work, it had windows xp home edition with the same router and modem.i now have an hp laptop. What may be the problem? I've been trying to resolve this problem for over 5 months.Much help is appreciated.
Switeck Posted March 1, 2008 Report Posted March 1, 2008 Sounds like 'hostile' software on the laptop firewalling off uTorrent.Have you tried running Process Explorer and/or HijackThis! and seeing if you can find the antivirus/antispyware or firewall application responsible for this?
MrTerry Posted March 1, 2008 Report Posted March 1, 2008 i also have the same problem,i am using windows xp,same modem as you are using and have worked on this for five days/nights,i also have done almost everything you describe and as far as i can tell the problem is with bell sympatico.they are not allowing downloads .i also changed my router to a static ip but that all means nothing if bell is stopping the torrent, which i gather it is.. i will be following the reply's here to see if there is a workaround but i think you and i are out of luck..good luck to you because it will affect me also..
doomdragon66 Posted March 1, 2008 Author Report Posted March 1, 2008 Mr Terry: I don't think it is bell sympatico that is blocking the downloads. Before i got my laptop, i had windows xp and the same speedstream 5200 modem, and the torrents worked perfectly. I tried contacting them, but they said that this is not a regular issue and directed me to another bell site that had useless self serve faqs.http://www.azureuswiki.com/index.php/Bad_ISPs#CanadaSwitech: I actually just reformatted my computer a couple of days ago with basically just the operation system and nothing else. I know that there aren't any other antivirus or firewalls because i single handedly installed all the drivers for my laptop again. Could the problem be windows vista? Because if you google 'windows vista port forwarding' there are some people who are saying some windows vista feature is preventing incoming connections.where do i get to see all my running programs that i can copy and paste onto this board
MrTerry Posted March 1, 2008 Report Posted March 1, 2008 i don't know if this is any help but when i do a check to see if port forwarding is working i get error port not working and i get the ip address for bell sympatico in toronto which is a hundred miles away from me,i also checked for bad isp's and bell is on the list,i also tried to download the open office torrent and that worked with a speed of 25-30 kbs with no port forwarding on,sorry i can't help you,,i am still experimenting with my settings,i've tried all i can think of and i ,like you, still can't get an open port..i will keep an eye on the replies you get to see if it applies to my problem,,,good luck :-)
2good2b Posted March 1, 2008 Report Posted March 1, 2008 Download Process Explorer here: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-gb/sysinternals/default.aspxHijackThis can be googled, too...
