thestilletto Posted December 17, 2005 Report Posted December 17, 2005 Not much backstory here, I just have never been able to download torrents at a steady rate, and my download speed and upload speed have never been able to go above 20 kbs.DSL reports says i'm getting1353 - Down250 - UpI'm using a linksys wireless router, but i'm plugged into itand my modem is a decently new speedlink.I hope someone can help, i've been trying to get my torrent speeds up for almost a year now, but none of my friends know what's wrong.

thestilletto Posted December 17, 2005 Author Report Posted December 17, 2005 Thank you, i've been trying to access the 192.168.1.1, but for some reason I can't seem to get it to work. I downloaded the first file, but I can't figure out what to do with the .bin file. I tried using WinISO to open the file, but it didn't work. Should I be using Nero or Alcohol 120 for this? Thanks for the link though.
Firon Posted December 18, 2005 Report Posted December 18, 2005 It's a binary file, the firmware for the WRT54G/GL/GS routers. It's not a CD image.Which of those routers do you have? If none, then the above doesn't apply to you.
thestilletto Posted December 18, 2005 Author Report Posted December 18, 2005 I have the WRT54G router, but I am still unable to access 192.168.1.1 in order to install the firmware. Is there any way to access this?
Firon Posted December 18, 2005 Report Posted December 18, 2005 Start -> run -> cmd /k ipconfigF:\>ipconfigWindows IP ConfigurationEthernet adapter Local Area Connection: Connection-specific DNS Suffix . : IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.2 Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0 Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.1Default Gateway is the router's IP address, and what you need to put into your browser. Also, whoever configured it may have disabled wireless access to the web interface (but this isn't likely since it's your router)
thestilletto Posted December 18, 2005 Author Report Posted December 18, 2005 Thank you, I am able to access it with 192.168.2.1, but I am beginning to question if my modem is a wrt54g.My router is a linksys 2.4 ghz wireless-B broadband router. Does anyone know where I can find which type it is on the router?
Firon Posted December 18, 2005 Report Posted December 18, 2005 WRT54G/GL/GS are Wireless G. It should say on the front of the router.The web interface says it too.
Firon Posted December 18, 2005 Report Posted December 18, 2005 Those routers have significant problems with P2P. Get a new one. Make sure you have the latest firmware for the router. The only thing you can do apart from that is turn off DHT (in Torrent Options) and pray it works better.
shinycars Posted December 20, 2005 Report Posted December 20, 2005 Try going here for help, I saw your router model listed there. Being behind a router, its really KEY to have it setup right. I increased my speeds 75-80% with the correct setup. Can also call tech support if thats available and they should be able to assist. I bet you can do it yourself though.http://www.portforward.com/routers.htm
