nabilalk Posted March 13, 2008 Report Posted March 13, 2008 *Update: Apparently a couple of the Advanced settings were changed, and after I reset the changed entries, the RSS update is back to normal conditions.------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Hello everyone, I seem to be having a problem with the updates of the RSS feeds that I subscribe to. Ever since the upgrade to 1.8 beta I get the following errors when attempting to update an RSS feed:[01:45:43] RSS: Unable to download "TVRSS|http://tvrss.net/feed/combined/": Only one usage of each socket address (protocol/network address/port) is normally permitted. [01:45:43] RSS: Unable to download "EZTV|http://tvrss.net/feed/eztv/": Only one usage of each socket address (protocol/network address/port) is normally permitted. [01:45:43] RSS: Unable to download "BTCHAT|http://rss.bt-chat.com/?cat=9": Only one usage of each socket address (protocol/network address/port) is normally permitted. [01:47:06] RSS: Unable to download "mininova|http://www.mininova.org/rss.xml?cat=8": Only one usage of each socket address (protocol/network address/port) is normally permitted. What does this mean, and what can I do to correct it? Is there some firewall issue? Is it a problem with some configuration or setting? Thanks!-NKA
jewelisheaven Posted March 13, 2008 Report Posted March 13, 2008 Appears to be a winsock error 10048 googleHmmmmm I don't know. What firewall and security software do you use?Edit:OOOH! Which settings were changed?? I don't think the 1.8 beta overwrites any settings. However if your settings are not THERE it will use defaults.
nabilalk Posted March 13, 2008 Author Report Posted March 13, 2008 I changed some of the advanced settings myself, hoping to increase the speeds of my downloads. It worked for a while, but it somehow messed with the sockets or something.
jewelisheaven Posted March 13, 2008 Report Posted March 13, 2008 Well you bumped that other thread so I was wondering which ones I'm glad you're working again. It appears to be something about client vs server connections... and is some limit imposed by Windows for how many sockets you have open at once. It wasn't net.max_halfopen was it?
nabilalk Posted March 13, 2008 Author Report Posted March 13, 2008 That was one of the options that I changed actually. It was changed from 8 to 66 as per the instructions in this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NVq2GkzNrY8&feature=relatedI'm not sure if that change in particular was the culprit, however once I reverted all of the advanced settings back to the original default settings, the problem seemed to take care of itself.
Firon Posted March 13, 2008 Report Posted March 13, 2008 You should never raise that setting without knowing what you're doing.
Lord Alderaan Posted March 14, 2008 Report Posted March 14, 2008 That video offers some VERY BAD advice.
nabilalk Posted March 14, 2008 Author Report Posted March 14, 2008 Apparently not, however some of the advice of the video did actually increase my DL speeds.
DreadWingKnight Posted March 14, 2008 Report Posted March 14, 2008 Any guide that recommends an increase of the net.max_halfopen setting AUTOMATICALLY FAILS.
nabilalk Posted March 14, 2008 Author Report Posted March 14, 2008 Why is that, what is the net.max_halfopen setting?
DreadWingKnight Posted March 14, 2008 Report Posted March 14, 2008 The setting affects the rate at which new connections are made.Setting it above the default of 8 just increases the rate at which substandard networking hardware or software dies and does NOT actually affect a torrent's speeds.
nabilalk Posted March 14, 2008 Author Report Posted March 14, 2008 Interesting. Are there any Advanced settings that you actually recommend changing?
Ultima Posted March 16, 2008 Report Posted March 16, 2008 Advanced settings generally shouldn't be changed unless there is a specific reason for doing so.
torrentgirl Posted March 16, 2008 Report Posted March 16, 2008 Hi. I am pretty new to torrent downloading. I was wondering if anyone could help me. I have several questions when using the RSS downloader, but I'll start off by asking the most important one...I went to http://tvrss.net/search/index.php?show_name=Lost&show_name_exact=true&mode=rss to add Lost TV Series. I copied and pasted the url and it keeps updating and nothing is happening. What do I do?
nabilalk Posted March 16, 2008 Author Report Posted March 16, 2008 Here is a tutorial on RSS downloading by the guys at EZTV http://docs.google.com/View?docid=dgsf923m_2d6k97nCheck that out, scroll down to the section on utorrent, and then post whatever questions that you still have. Also, what Antivirus are you currently running, some people complain that they are unable to update the RSS feeds due to a conflict with their antivirus or firewall.Hope that helps.-NKA
