FloatingRock
I have a Netgear RP614v2 router that seems to have the same problem as a few other routers on the "Bad Router" list, where the router will stop working periodically, (a few times a week), and need to be reset. Now I'm in the market for a new router, but since my current model of router wasn't on the "Bad Router" list, I'm concerned that if I select a new router that isn't on the list, I might have the same problem. Is there a "Good Router" list for P2P out there? What routers are people here using which work geat generally and with BT?Thanks,-FloatingRock
1c3d0g
Linksys WRT54GL, with custom firmware can't be beaten, according to most here.
Inf
My Edimax BR6104K seems to be ok in that aspect. Yet if you try to flood it with 10000 connections, or do something similarly evil to it, it WILL slow it down to null.
ben
for a cheaper (802.11B) solution, use the linksys BEFW11S4 V4. i got it for 15$ (after 30$ rebate) from best buy..the trick is using firmware version 1.50.13 any other firmware will give you nothing but a broken fist when you punch the wall from anger. Firon
The 54GL is still better. And not that expensive, it's only $60 right now. All the WRT54G/GL/GS suffer from crappy firmware problems (Linksys seems to have an issue with firmware.....), but some of the replacements can fix all the problems and give you an awesome router. ben
do you mean the NEWEST firmware, or after the 1.50.13 firmware? if you mean the newest.. then i guess linksys got their shit together with THAT router..
FloatingRock
Thanks for all of your responses. I decided to go with a D-Link DI-604 because the local Office Depot had them in stock, they're fairly inexpensive and a friend has one and hasn't had any problems with BT.On a side note, while I was asking my friends what routers they used, one of them had a Linksys WRT54G and was having problems with BT, (using a different client), so I pointed him to the uTorrent FAQ and told him to fix it.Thanks again for your suggestions.-FloatingRockP.S. the D-Link DI-604 was harder to set up for BT than my old Netgear. I didn't have any problem forwarding the port and getting the Network OK message, but I was getting slow seeding speeds and low peer connections. (I was only seeding at the time). I'm not exactly sure how I resolved it, (didn't test it after it started working), but the last thing I did was go to the Tools->Misc page and disable UDnP and Gaming Mode before resetting the router. Either it was one of those, probably UDnP, or it was just some unidentifiable... thing. I had UDnP disabled in uTorrent, and that was enough for the Netgear, but the DI-604 seems not to have liked the situation for some reason. Maybe I'm wrong. Firon
UPnP doesn't work on just about any D-Link (and I still think it's a horrible router, you should've gone with Linksys )
dolbysnoopy
Is DLink's DI604 that bad? I saw many good reviews on websites, but don't know much about BT performance with it. It's one of my choice earlier. Linksys is expensive for me, I still prefer wired router.
Firon
$60 is expensive? Oh well... And you can use it as wired-only, just disable the wireless. There's various users with problems here with D-Link routers (DI-604 being the most common), try using search to find 'em.
dolbysnoopy
The DLink DI604 is selling half price of Linksys, and it got some awards from PC Magazines as seen from it's official homepage. Used a cheap Tenda from a friend, it costs less than $20, runs good with low speed adsl modems.I think it depends what line speed you use, the expensive ones use for high speed internet links (>10Mbps). Firon
Well, if it works for you, then good for you I guess. It's cheap because it sucks... Apparently if you wanna go the cheap route, the BEFW11S4 is a better way to go (with the right firmware)
FloatingRock
Since it's not too late for me to take my DI-604 back I took you up on your suggestion, Firon, and did a search in all of the forums for DI-604, but didn't see anything particularly troubling, especially since the one I've got seems to be running fine so far. Granted, it's only been 24 hrs. We'll see how it goes.
Firon
Hope it works for you. Firmware upgrades may help any issues you encounter (but turn off UPnP in the router)

Firon
Wireless gaming router makes me think its DMZ mode is one of those shittty game-mode DMZs that mangles packets and screws with P2P and whatnot, causing corrupted packets. Rapustin
Can somebody tell me what is the best custom firmware out there for the WRT54GL?I am thinking of purchasing it and I'm curious about the experiences people here have had with getting utorrent or other p2p apps to work with it. Is installing that certain modded firmware all that is needed to get better BT performance or are there other steps needed to optimize the connection?
