Know about bad routers, which are good?

I have a Netgear RP614v2 router that seems to have the same problem as a few other routers on the "Bad Router" list, where the router will stop working periodically, (a few times a week), and need to be reset.

Now I'm in the market for a new router, but since my current model of router wasn't on the "Bad Router" list, I'm concerned that if I select a new router that isn't on the list, I might have the same problem.

Is there a "Good Router" list for P2P out there? What routers are people here using which work geat generally and with BT?

Thanks,

for a cheaper (802.11B) solution, use the linksys BEFW11S4 V4. i got it for 15$ (after 30$ rebate) from best buy..

the trick is using firmware version 1.50.13 :P any other firmware will give you nothing but a broken fist when you punch the wall from anger.

The 54GL is still better. :P And not that expensive, it's only $60 right now. All the WRT54G/GL/GS suffer from crappy firmware problems (Linksys seems to have an issue with firmware.....), but some of the replacements can fix all the problems and give you an awesome router. :P

Thanks for all of your responses. I decided to go with a D-Link DI-604 because the local Office Depot had them in stock, they're fairly inexpensive and a friend has one and hasn't had any problems with BT.

On a side note, while I was asking my friends what routers they used, one of them had a Linksys WRT54G and was having problems with BT, (using a different client), so I pointed him to the uTorrent FAQ and told him to fix it.

Thanks again for your suggestions.

P.S. the D-Link DI-604 was harder to set up for BT than my old Netgear. I didn't have any problem forwarding the port and getting the Network OK message, but I was getting slow seeding speeds and low peer connections. (I was only seeding at the time). I'm not exactly sure how I resolved it, (didn't test it after it started working), but the last thing I did was go to the Tools->Misc page and disable UDnP and Gaming Mode before resetting the router. Either it was one of those, probably UDnP, or it was just some unidentifiable... thing. I had UDnP disabled in uTorrent, and that was enough for the Netgear, but the DI-604 seems not to have liked the situation for some reason. Maybe I'm wrong.

The DLink DI604 is selling half price of Linksys, and it got some awards from PC Magazines as seen from it's official homepage. Used a cheap Tenda from a friend, it costs less than $20, runs good with low speed adsl modems.

I think it depends what line speed you use, the expensive ones use for high speed internet links (>10Mbps).

Since it's not too late for me to take my DI-604 back I took you up on your suggestion, Firon, and did a search in all of the forums for DI-604, but didn't see anything particularly troubling, especially since the one I've got seems to be running fine so far. Granted, it's only been 24 hrs.

We'll see how it goes.

HyperWRT2.1b1 tofu 11.

http://www.utorrent.com/faq.php#Special_note_for_users_with_Linksys_WRT54G_GL_GS_routers

tofu's worked awesome for me since tofu3 or so. :P

Is installing that certain modded firmware all that is needed to get better BT performance or are there other steps needed to optimize the connection?

I just bought a wrt54gl and I'm just preparing for the fun times I'm going to have with it :)
