RageRiot
ok just about had enough of this. I cant download Torrents and havnt been able to download them for well over a year now. Every client I've tried (azureus, bittornado, ABC, BitTorrent official, BitLord, and uTorrent) freezes. I can usually get out of the freeze by using task manager to kill the process, this can take some time and some times doesn't work. some times it closes straight away. My Current system specs are: AMD 64bit Athlon FX-55 2.6ghzAsus A8v Deluxe ATI RAdeon X800XT 256MB1GB DDR400 Ram (I 'm currently testing with a different Stick, just 512mb. more on this below)Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS 7.1 Platinum Pro sound Card80GB SATA HDDI used to get the Same problem on my old system. the only thing that hasn't changed in my new system (one above) is the Ram. I've had it for a while now but still seems to be going stronge and I haven't experience any other problems on my computer. At the moment I've taken both 512 sticks out and put in a DDR133 512mb stick to see if I get the same freezes and you guesed it I did. I'm all out of ideas any help would be much appriciatedThanks in andvaced.RageRiot
Switeck
Sounds like viruses, trojans, bad hardware drivers (especially for network cards/routers/cablemodems/DSL modems) are to blame.Still, have you done SCANDISK + Disk Cleanup + Defrag on your hard drive? What about scanning with the latest and best antvirus and antispyware?(For AV, most of the big names are ok...but for antispyware almost nothing compairs to SpyBot v1.4 and Ad Aware.)Is your computer connected directly to your cablemodem/DSL modem?(If so, what sort of software firewall/s do you use?) 1c3d0g
I'll have to agree with Switeck. Are you overclocking? Try loosening your RAM timings, they may be a bit too tight and causing some stability problems. :|
RageRiot
I'm connected via a Cable modem. through a 4 port Router. I'm just scanning for spyware now but I usually check it often anyway. as for AV my system is clean.. unliky to be a virus anyway since this problem has been with me for over a year and I'be formatted many many times since then and changed most of my hardware. and I just updated my NIC Drivers the other day to see if it would help. Firon
Uninstall it and either use no firewall, the Windows Firewall, or get ZA 6.x and ask Ultima for instructions on configuring it.

trippledene
I'm useing an A8N SLI - Delux with the NF4 Firewall and AVAST, now starting to suffer the same problems as Rage. The funny thing is Utorrents been fine for a week. Untill yesterday when it started crashing.I went back to bit commnet to see it it was utorrent and thats crashing as well! The last step was to try utorrent on my old PC, which runs the same build of windows and avast. No crashes. Leads me to think its the NV firewall but why would shuch a problem materialise over night. Also, task maneger shows no sine of any of the NV aplications suffering. Its strange.Update: Got azureus running again, and this seems to be OK.. Touch wood. I may try diableing DHT and see if that makes a difrence. But i'm still trying to figure what changed to maky my utorrent mess up.Upadate 2 - Turned of DHT in utorrent, atempting to resume my downloads. All seems to be working fine now. Firon
You should've read the FAQ.http://www.utorrent.com/faq.php#Help.21_My.C2.B5Torrent_process_is_using_a_ton_of_memory.21It's a severe bug with the firewall, and it's NOT a µT only thing. It's happened to eMule users, BitComet users, and so on and so forth. You must uninstall the firewall. It's got a severe bug that makes it hemorrhage memory like crazy with any UDP communication, EVEN when disabled.

I've got an update on my problem. I tried uninstalling Zone Alarm 5.5.x.. but my pc restarted as soon as the uninstaller started. same thing happend if I tried upgrading without an uninstall. I had to in the end go into safe mode and use Advanced uninstaller pro and install ZA 6.x n Safe mode. I tried uTorrent, it doesnt seem to freeze now but I've noticed after coming back to check on my torrrents it appears that my systmem has restarted. I went to try ABC and at the moment all seems fine but I'd prefer to use uTorrent.what am I to do now? completel remove Zone ALarm and use another firewall ? any sugestions if thats the case. Firon
I didn't mention it to you RageRiot, it was to trippledene ZA 6.x SHOULD work just fine, but I find it kind of odd that you couldn't even uninstall ZA 5.5...Uh, close all unnecessary programs, and try to uninstall ZA 6? Then reboot and re-install it, to see if it works...If all else fails, re-install Windows.
lsutig
was having the same problem with multiple clients locking up. noticed it was only happening on public trackers and never on private so i disabled DHT on the public torrent im downloading and it cleared up. RageRiot
Hey thanks for your help guys upgrading Zone Alarm seemed to do the trick but uTorrent still restarts and ABC looks as if the GUI has stopped updating and data doesnt seem to be going in or out as if it's froxe but it hasnt and utorrent restarts my pc so I'll stick to Azureus for now. thanks again RageRiot
Firon
lsutig: did you get "A socket operation encountered a dead network" when doing that, by any chance?RageRiot: Did you uninstall ZA, then re-install it?Also, try the beta or something. And I think you have some kind of weird software conflict, or buggy drivers. Just uninstall ZA and see if not using any firewall at all helps. Disable the Windows Firewall / ICS service (Start -> run -> Services.msc) while you're at it. Make sure you don't have the NVidia Firewall installed on your system. lsutig
no i didnt get any error msg.i use bitdefender AV/firewall, but it used to happen without any av/firewall. my clients just lock up and computer runs fine. happened with bitlord and utorrent for sure. would just make the client unresponsive every 20 secs for about 1 min. like i said tho disabling DHT cleared it up.
