mpmc
Hi, Everyone..Because I love µT so much, I decided to create an installer just to make Life Easier..You can download the latest at http://homepage.ntlworld.com/albrecht/The installer also includes some good Torrent sites which are also installed as shortcuts. (not in IE, but in the program folder) (You can recommend some new ones to add in the next release. This is completely SPYWARE/ADWARE/VIRUS FREE...I don't have spyware on PC so, nether should anyone else...Let me know what you think...Thanks
canuckerfan
I appreciate your effort. However, I strongly disagree with an installer for utorrent. It goes against the whole idea of utorrent being "efficient"
hofshi
I second that
mpmc
It isn't meant for advanced users. It's meant for new users & its just easier to have it installed without the one file everywhere different versions. Its only 200KB more.. surely that isn't a big deal.. I could compress it..I could always create a Web installer.. lol. just visit the site & it downloads it?
Firon
This is honestly really pointless and useless...

DomZ
haha, I'm still thinking up ideas for mine.
Ultima
@tumu: Why the negative view of mpmc there? It doesn't seem like mpmc is looking for 15 minutes of fame -- he seems to genuinely want to make an installer O.o@mpmc: As canuckerfan said, your effort is appreciated, but I'm still unsure why an installer is needed, even for people who you don't consider to be "advanced users." The first time you run µTorrent, it asks if you want to create shortcuts (more-or-less an installer feature). I haven't tried your installer, but I'll venture a guess and say that uninstaller probably misses some of the registry entries and settings files created by µTorrent, in which case, any advantage of having an installer is dissipated. hofshi
I thought that µtorrent didn't make any registry modifications.
Ultima
Well stuff like Windows startup and torrent associations are handled in the registry.
Firon
One registry key. Two tops. It's not a big deal. >.>
splintax
It is if you want to uninstall µT and don't know how to reassociate torrent files. But hey, who would want to uninstall it?
Firon
A new client would ask you when loading. "Do you want to associate torrent files with x client"
Ultima
But in this way, it doesn't gracefully fall back to the previous association. Granted, I personally couldn't care less what happens to the torrent association if I ever remove µTorrent, but that's just one thing that an installer/uninstaller can be useful for. TheBear
I applaud anyone's efforts to make µTorrent a more accessible client. If it's "stumpiing" on it's behalf or writing some code, it shows initiative and that has to be applauded.Whether "advanced" users agree to it's validity is their own decision, and they are entitled to it. However not everyone is such a user. After all, why do people like BitComet so much?Likely because they didn't don't have to do anything after pushing the install button.Let's not piss on anyone's initiative. If it wasn't for the desire to get a better product out to the people, many of us would still be using, what are in retrospect, some really quite shitty clients. Ultima
Hence the reason canuckerfan and I both recognized mpmc's effort and mentioned that it was appreciated =]
anoxan
I haven't tried your installer, but I'll venture a guess and say that uninstaller probably misses some of the registry entries and settings files created by µTorrent, in which case, any advantage of having an installer is dissipated.what if it doesn't miss those entries? would be nice to have for those who would want it.if, in the far future, I wanted to remove µT for a better client (if that happens ), an uninstaller would make things a little easier..I say keep working on it. and compress it. I know someone will use it!
Nefarious
I'd like the idea of an installer that lets u set the directory for current torrents, the resume.dat the settings.dat the *.all actually, that would be nice this one is a nice idea for the newbies i guess
Ultima
I doubt the installer can do that for you. The configuration file is encoded, so unless it can read the file, it can't read and write to the file (normally).
hendrix
whatever.. as long as it is free.. i bet someone could use a installer which works kinda like a codec-pack, with links and maybe even settings!?.. As long as there are choices i see no need for voting NO on this!!! edit: btw mpmc good work, havent tried your installer and i dont think i will.. but anyways good work! hehe
bleh
Seems awfully useless to me, anyone who doesn't know how to properly install a program without an installer, really shouldn't be mucking about with a p2p app.But hey, there are lazy people I guess. Medlem
Is it just me that thinks it is annoying having to create a folder called utorrent each time i reinstall? :/ Installer is the shit, even if it was 5 meg I do not want the utorrent.exe on desktop or in my documents, i want it in /program files/utorrent, if utorrent would copy itself to that folder as it does with association, i would be a happy guy. hendrix
well, if u put utorrent.exe in progr.../whereever/ when u update (via utorrent) u dont have to create anything.. it replaces the original exe!
