cosmic
Utorrent works fine but......everytime I start utorrent I cannot connect to the internet using email or web browsers. If i turn off utorrent and restart the browser or email program they connect fine. I have tried all the suggestions that i could find on here about no. connections etc. but nothing makes a difference. I use windows xp home on a 1.8ghz AMD xp2200 system. Kapersky is the virus program that i am using, and i have added utorrent on the safe list. Like i say it the internet and utorrent work fine if i dont try to run them at the same timeplease help
jewelisheaven
So the lag happens due to uT settings... Does uT have to be transferring data like from http://slackware.com/torrents/ ? Or does it lag when you've just got uT up? Try turning off DHT. Additionally what is your Ctrl-P -> Advanced -> net.max_halfopen set to? If it is not default (* means non-default) reset it and try again. Additionally what are your Speed Guide (Ctrl-G) settings?

cosmic
I have tried all the notes in the link that you have posted. And I have reduced all the settings including the max number of connections and half open connections to normal. The internet doesn't 'lag' as such it just doesn't connect as soon as i open utorrent, even if something hasn't started downloading. Previously, I was able to use the internet and email (albeit at a lower speed) whilst uttorrent was on but now they just don't work at all. For instance if i turned utorrent on whilst writing this message I would not be able to post it unless i stoppped utorrent and restarted my internet browser. cosmic
DHT is turned off. My Max Half open is 8.My upload limit is 10kb/s at the moment, Upload slots 3, Connections 200, Global connections 200, Max torrents active and downloading is 10The internet doesn't lag when utorrent is on it stops working completely. I can't connect to the internet (outlook, firefox etc.) as soon as i turn utorrent on. I've just had to turn utorrent on to get the data that you required and now I can't post this message so i will have to copy this text, turn off utorrent and restart the browser to send it! Very odd. jewelisheaven
Thank you. Firstly, if the problem is uT, you should not need to re-open your browser.Secondly...you should re-set those Speed Guide settings to something useable on your connection. Use the drop-down to select your UPLOAD. If it doesn't matter what you're doing in uT, are you also using UPnP or NAT-PMP?? Those are under Ctrl-P -> Connection ... if you forward your port you don't need them on anyways. As far as the connection stopping... can you verify it's the connection actually stopped.. does the network icon in the system tray say "a cable is unplugged" or if you double click on it does it still show you're connected? I highly suspect your high settings are causing the trouble, but the only way to verify is to lower them. That's why I suggested the Speed Guide settings in the beginning. If after that there's no lead as to why this happens, search in Firon's link for "HiJackThis"... it may be something like your antivirus, security software, or firewall is interfering with uT's operation :/
