Automatic File Scanning

Hi, I'm using ESET's NOD32 AV. How can I configure ut to scan files automatically when downloaded? There is a command line in the advanced tab of new download task window. It can be used for it but I don't know the specific AV params and I don't want to do it for every torrent. Is there a simple way for this?

There's no automated way to scan for viruses once a download is complete. The advanced tab does allow you to launch nod32 as a command line if you want. Details are here: http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies-archive.cfm/870800.html

I haven't done virus myself from µTorrent, but I could see it being kind of tricky since torrents can contain a single or multi-file in a directory. The syntax you would use in each situation is different. I wouldn't want to scan an entire directory when only one file is desired.

Actually with ESET Smart Security you can activate active/passive filtering for various programs...This inturn enables you to actually scan what is coming into your system sometimes before the trojans/adware/worms/viruses and such are even completed. You would actually need to go through the program and and familiarize yourself with the settings as the best way to get a handle on understanding the program. All internet browsers/programs of the like and ports can be actively monitored as well as any file that is being downloaded or accessed. Even if its not in the latest update, advanced heuristics and the latest version of NOD 32 will enable you to detect these threats even before they go into the database as known threats, thus the reason for ThreatSense, another reason the program does not use simple file names, like other AV softwares and actually goes beyond...Technically in my opinion automatic scanning would be redundant and a waste of system resources with ESET NOD32...

Not to sound obtuse - I should state that you only need to scan for viruses (and associated bad guy programs) on applications only. Music, video, and eBooks don't need to be scanned. There are some folder monitor programs that will trigger a program to be run (like a virus scanner). I searched around but can't seem to find a freeware - they all seem to be shareware.

  • 3 weeks later...

There is actually a few API's for virus scanning... (and for marking files as "foreign".)

(IOfficeAntiVirus and IAttachmentExecute)

Most anti-virus programs have "real-time protection" in the form of filesystem filter drivers anyway.
