everwinter
hi there, utorrent runs fine for me on my laptop with vista, but if i try to exit from the program(rightclick icon in the taskbar, exit), then it`s freezing and will not close(vista does searching for a solution for some time and finally gives up).i see that no more network traffic is running though, so the app. seems to be dead. if i try to end the process in the taskmanager, vista simply is not able to do that. the process remains active.do you have any hints what could cause the problems?running vista sp1, zonealarm(which is of course the first candidate for suspicion, but also the same issue if turned off) and avira antivir personal.help would be appreciated, i never encountered this issue on win xp.thanks!hijackthis:Scan saved at 00:29:36, on 21.04.2008Platform: Unknown Windows (WinNT 6.00.1905 SP1)MSIE: Internet Explorer v7.00 (7.00.6001.18000)Running processes:C:\Windows\system32\taskeng.exeC:\Windows\system32\Dwm.exeC:\Windows\Explorer.EXEC:\Program Files\Windows Defender\MSASCui.exeC:\Windows\RtHDVCpl.exeC:\Program Files\Synaptics\SynTP\SynTPEnh.exeC:\Program Files\Avira\AntiVir PersonalEdition Classic\avgnt.exeD:\Programme\Zone Labs\ZoneAlarm\zlclient.exeC:\Windows\System32\igfxtray.exeC:\Windows\System32\hkcmd.exeC:\Windows\System32\igfxpers.exeC:\Program Files\Windows Sidebar\sidebar.exeC:\Program Files\Windows Media Player\wmpnscfg.exeC:\Windows\system32\igfxsrvc.exeC:\Users\DMS\AppData\Local\Temp\RtkBtMnt.exeC:\Program Files\Windows Sidebar\sidebar.exeC:\Program Files\firefox.exeC:\Program Files\Windows Mail\WinMail.exeC:\Program Files\uTorrent\uTorrent.exeC:\Windows\system32\SearchFilterHost.exeC:\Users\DMS\Desktop\HijackThis.exeR1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://de.rd.yahoo.com/customize/ycomp/defaults/sp/*http://de.yahoo.comR0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://www.google.at/R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Page_URL = http://de.intl.acer.yahoo.comR1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Search_URL = http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=54896R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=54896R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://de.intl.acer.yahoo.comR0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant = R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,CustomizeSearch = R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchURL,(Default) = http://de.rd.yahoo.com/customize/ycomp/defaults/su/*http://de.yahoo.comR0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Toolbar,LinksFolderName = R3 - URLSearchHook: Yahoo! thesteveman
I too have this same problem.Never happened with Windows XP.Am using the same programs, including zone alarm. While the other user uses IE, I use firefox and have the same problem. This is only upon exiting from the program. Could this be a Vista problem?
Ultima
Try uninstalling ZA (temporarily for testing?). It has been known to cause MANY problems for MANY users -- crashes are not unheard of with ZA.
Firon
It's probably Zone Alarm's fault. ZA is troublesome enough on XP, but even worse on Vista.
askani
I have the same problem. I've tried shutting down ZoneAlarm and restarting the system, but it still crashes on exit.I've tried uTorrent 1.7.7 and the latest 1.8 beta. Same problem.I guess it might have something to do with Vista's SP1 updates, but it's only a guess.Any ideas???
everwinter
already thought about that but as said i shut ZA down completely and got the same issue.seems to be a matter of time, because today i downloaded a small torrent and utorrent shut down normally. it seems to be only an issue if utorrent runs a certain time for leeching/seeding.hm, does anyone know another software firewall for vista though?i used the kerio but it does not work with vista and i don´t like the built in one... GTHK
Shutting down a firewall usually doesn't work, you need to uninstall it to remove the pieces that remain active, even when disabled.
askani
Sorry about that; problem solved once ZA was unistalled. Thanks,
Ultima
@everwinter: Comodo. It works perfectly fine with µTorrent.
everwinter
thanks ultima, i´ll give comodo a try and report back then.edit:(couldn`t you change the anti-double post policy to a timout for e.g. one day?)hum, many options in the firewall, or at least a strange sorting of functionalities... i cannot find an option for only allowing a certain incoming port for e.g. utorrent in the network security policy - do you have an idea?(sorry, i know that's outside support)besides that commodo is working fine with utorrent it seems - got no more hanging .exe:)thanks!
