Please somebody help!!!

I am far from an expert at using utorrent but I have been using it for a few years now with excellent results, until yesterday.

All of a sudden , when I began to download something, the file would begin to download normally but after a few minutes this message would inevitablly pop up:

Torrent Error

file: xxxx.avi

The process cannot accessthe file because it is being used by another process.

I have never seen this error in all my time using utorrent and everything else I encountered I resolved but this is driving me crazy.

It's as if utorrent was running simultaneously someplace else on the computer. I really don't know if this is possible but one of the torrent sites I use will not let me download anything else because it detects I am downloading more than three active torrents, but I'm not!!!

Is this something that has happened before? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

a) get HijackThis from trendsecure.com, run it, view the log, and post the contents here

B) get Process Explorer from sysinternals.com, run it, Ctrl+D (to show the lower DLL pane), select the µTorrent process from the list, Ctrl+S (and save the list somewhere you'll find easily -- like the Desktop), then post the contents of the saved process list in the .txt file here

I am not running running any Nero app but I did recently install Roxio Easy Media Creator 10. Does that affect me? Please let me know.

Roxio is, indeed, the apparent source of your problems. You're going to have to disable its media indexer somewhere in its preferences, make it ignore any of µTorrent's download directories, or simply uninstall Roxio entirely. There are freeware alternatives out there (like ImgBurn or InfraRecorder) that work quite well for basic CD/DVD burning uses.

If you want to play with it more, see if on install of the EZ CD Creator you can disable that extra stuff from installing? It could certainly help others, if there was a post by someone saying "Recent EZ CD Creator install, Torrent ERROR, no problem ;) Here's how to fix it" instead of ... "You'll have to uninstall it if it's Roxio". I say someone because I'm personally loathe to install software I don't need and will inevitably uninstall within the day heh.

Note this problem has occurred since 8, iirc. There was even someone who had BOTH 9 AND 10 on the same Windows install ><

hi all,

I had been usning utorrent for years aswell with no problem then all of a sudden started getthing the same notifications that the process was ebing used by another process! i found a different forum on this site which suggested that utorrent has a clash with roxio and to uninstall roxio i did this and the problem corrected itself after i restarted my computer. So give it a try it worked for me and from the forum i was it worked for alot of other people too.
