Ultima
There is no explicit limit -- you can configure that from the firmware. Depending on how well-optimized the firmware is, you may be able to crank out more connections. Supposedly, with the current version of Tomato (or was it some speed mod of Tomato?), it can run with over 4000 simultaneous connections without trouble. I never use that much (and most people probably won't need that much either -- even DHT wouldn't generate that much, given proper timeout settings). mystycs
So do you think if i change the firmware on my belkin i can handle more connections?
Ultima
Probably not...? These settings are configurable because they're third-party firmwares. That I know of, Belkins don't have third-party firmwares.
GTHK
Piece of cake for the WRT54GL. My G was a little convoluted, don't get G's.

Ultima
We've already said that D-Links are known to be problematic for many users...
mystycs
Alright hehe. Ok i guess i will look into the LINKSYS WRT54GL. And What is the big difference between Tomato and DD-WRT.
Ultima
DD-WRT has a ton of more features. That may or may not be a good thing, depending on what your needs are, and what you tolerate. I don't need anything Tomato doesn't already have (and even with Tomato, I get more than I need).Tomato's interface is (IMO) prettier to look at/navigate/use too. mystycs
Well im looking into gaming, torrenting, Browsing internet.
Ultima
Internet usage wise, there shouldn't be too much of a difference... People who are actively deciding which firmware to use decide based on what they want to be able to configure the router to do, not what they can do on their own computer while the router is installed. mystycs
I can install different firmwares on the router as many times as i want right?>
Ultima
No. Yes.(At first, I thought you asked whether you could install multiple firmwares simultaneously xD)
GTHK
It'll work . Ultima, out of curiosity, on Tomato, can you boost the transmitter power? IPv6? Bridging by wireless? Create multiple wireless SSID's with different encryption settings?I've known nothing else then DD-WRT .

GTHK
If you want to have two computers use the same port, but at different times, you can use port triggering. Handy for hosting Internet games on different computers at varying times.
