Loose_moth
N00b needs help. When d/l some torrents (not all, just a few, most work well) I get to around 96% at reasonable speeds for my connection (compared with other successful torrents). Then I get hundreds of hashfails and the % goes up and down around 96% and speed drops to 0.1Kb/s. I am on a wireless DLink router but the DMZ is most definitely not in place. Any thoughts? Most frustrating when I get 250 out of 255Mb and then waste 100 Mb! Tried restarting Utorrent, restarting the torrent itself, re-checking, getting different torrent. At the moment it's a .rar file that is not quite finished.
jewelisheaven
Are the hashfails all from the same IPs? How about the same subset of IPs?
hermanm
I think jewel is hinting that some torrents have malicious peers whose intent is to send bad pieces to slow down the torrent. Its a stupid strategy used by anti-p2p companies.
jewelisheaven
No. If it's from the same IPs, possibly. If not, and it's 1 or 2 hashfails on ALL peers connected, if nothing gets banned or EVERYONE gets banned it's more likely something about the connection... i.e. something ELSE relating to DLINK
Loose_moth
Thanks, I suspect it may be what hermanm suspects considering the content. Bloody ******s. I'll just keep plugging away. I don't think it is the router considering that torrents for OOo and similar freeware work just fine
jewelisheaven
Right... if it's the same IPs, you can use http://utorrent.com/faq.php#What_is_ipfilter.dat.3F to perma-ban them so you don't have to let uT ban them itself. You'll see it ban them in the Logger tab... "piece XX failed hash" x 5 then "banned peer xx.xx.xx.xx"
