eifman
Probaly the wrong place for this post!!!I have just started using utorrent and I have a yellow triangle on the screen, I have trawled the web and tried all sorts of port forwarding to no avail, I get the "Error port 36449 does not appear to be open" I have a Sweex MO200UK router on Vista, although I am able to download it is painfully slow,at present I am d/l at 11.2kb/s from 6(1601)seeds 8(3136)peers,u/l 26.4kb/s. Any help for a newbe to get over these problems?
jewelisheaven
If your model is not listed @ http://www.portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/routerindex.htm for pictures... you may be able to see a similar one from the same manufacturer. As far as downloading... how close to your set limit are you uploading? Use the Speed tab, scale to 5 or 30 seconds... is it consistent?? (horizontal line)What does a speedtest on your line say? Have you followed http://utorrent.com/setup_guide.php? eifman
I have visited both the sites you mention and have cofigured Utorrent/router as instructed, my d/l is 2.8kbs and erratic, u/l is fluctuating 13-18kb/s. My speed test works out at an average 305Kbps and I have set the connection type to 256K. still looking lousy !!
jewelisheaven
There's no guarantee of download speeds, especially without a forwarded port. Is the bittorrent traffic the only thing on your line? You should be able to put out more data true, however it's possible your line is being managed by your ISP. If you follow the procedures in http://forum.utorrent.com/viewtopic.php?id=15992 post #2 it may help. Easiest step: Ctrl-P -> BitTorrent -> Enabled/Forced encryption. The steps increase in complexity after that, including turning off features and running your uT with more restrictive settings for your connection. You will of course want to check the test torrents, one of which http://distribution.openoffice.org/p2p/ should max your download speed within 1-3 minutes. This ensures your downloads are not being shaped. ALSO please keep in mind any shaping profile may either time or load-based. Therefore testing the same settings at different times (usually every hour or two) will provide you with enough data to figure the schedule out so you can enter it into the scheduler. eifman
Yet again I have tried your suggestions but the yellow icon is still on, I have even changed the router, to no avail, reading thru the posts I notice one mentions Kaspersky, I have forwarded port 36449 in the settings, also to no avail. Help!!
Switeck
Try updating OR uninstalling Kaspersky for testing purposes. There was a MAJOR bug in their last update which sabotaged lots of computers.

eifman
I have just uninstalled Kaspersky still get the port problem, D/l the latest version @129.88Kb/s, installed it still getting the same problem, any ideas?
Switeck
eifman,You have definitely mistaken kilobits/sec for KiloBYTES/sec.Also, your upload max is not equal to your download max...by my estimates, you probably can only use xx/128k in Speed Guide (CTRL+G) due to seeing only 13-18 KiloBYTES/sec upload speeds in uTorrent. Walter
I, too, am a newbie to uTorrent and am having problems. I have installed version 1.7.7. When I run the speed test I get the message Error:Port 48536 does not appear to open. I undertook the setting up of a static IP address and port forwarding with the help of my ISP (BTInternet - I am using their Home Hub wireless router). My problem may well be something very minor but please HELP! Could someome please advise on the necessary settings on the Preferences window which, for 1.7.7 is different to that shown in the various guides. Switeck
It may be a problem on your computer rather than anything in uTorrent.Did you check for other firewalls?Antivirus software may be blocking uTorrent.
