d_headshot
I port forwarded several times and it recieves incomming connections from bitorrent, I changed the options to the exact of the tutorial for my linksys wrt45g, and my internet speed is really fast, and I still only get average speeds of 18-30 kb/s. The torrents that I have have at least 10 seeds or more so why is it so slow?Edit: I read something about updating the firmware on the router but I don't know which version of the wrt45g I have. How do I tell?

d_headshot
I found out that the router I have is version 3. So which firmware do I download to make it work better?
GTHK
Are you sure the router is the bottleneck? Bypass it to check. The latest official firmware can be found here. DD-WRT and other firmwares work better, but try the official first.
jewelisheaven
To help ascertain WHERE the bottleneck is you can use http://distribution.openoffice.org/p2p/ as a test of bandwidth ... not so much connection load, you should use one of your torrents you can seed ... preferrably on a large swarm. If speeds are still an issue it could be your line, so go through http://forum.utorrent.com/viewtopic.php?id=15992 post #2, including changing your Encryption settings to Enabled/Forced...While it won't hurt you to get a more configurable firmware than the stock one, if you're not feeling too adventurous you can always try the 1.8 Beta... it has workarounds should you be experiencing shaping. That is to say, you don't get the advertised speeds down / up that your speedtest and ISP purport to be selling you.
Switeck
Shaw Cable in Canada is known to muck with BitTorrent traffic, though in far lesser degree than Rogers Cable in Canada.See here for more details:http://www.azureuswiki.com/index.php/Bad_ISPsHere talks about ways around it, although it's Azureus specific:http://www.azureuswiki.com/index.php/Avoid_traffic_shaping
d_headshot
Yeah I got shaw. Are there other torrent clients that work fast with shaw cable?
jewelisheaven
If it's the ISP, client is essentially irrelevant ... Here's a recent story about Bell's shaping between 4:30p and 2a of all customers, including the smaller ones which may peer or link with them. I don't think that affects Shaw though. http://www.thestar.com/sciencetech/article/407730Have you tried 1.8?
