Why does my download speed improve after restarting my computer?

Hello.

I run Utorrent 1.7.7 on a two computer LAN that has a Comcast cable connection to the 1st computer. I am connected to the first computer via a Lynkys WRT54GS router and run Windows XP. I've have made all the Utorrent recommended adjustments regarding improving download speed.

I usually leave my computer on all the time and I usually get downloads below 15 KB/ps. Today, I had to restart my computer. When I restarted my computer, my download speed went up to as much as 80KBps. Then, after awhile it reverted back to

below 15 KB/ps. I restarted my computer three times and had the same result every time.

What's going on?

Thanks for responding Switeck,

My upload speed is set to 92 and I come close to my upload speed. I went and read everything again and I have noticed that when I download, I max out the cache of my "Read Statistics". Could that be the problem?

Your router should be connected to the cable modem and then both your computers connected to the router. Then you can use uPnp which will eliminate the need to check port forwarding as a potential issue for slow speeds.

The typical cause of slowdowns that require computer reset often concern faulty network drivers or software firewalls.

The simplest workaround is reduce half open connection max in uTorrent and disable DHT, Resolve IPs, and sometimes UPnP as well. (Sadly UPnP may be needed by you to get uTorrent unfirewalled.)
