nabilalk
Hello,I tried searching the forums for this, but I didn't find anything that helped me out with this. How can I filter out .RAR files from RSS downloaded TV shows? Thanks!-NKA
jewelisheaven
Have you tried "match original name" and do NOT: .RAR ?
nabilalk
No, I have not tried that yet actually. What effect will changing all of my favorites to match original name have on them? What is the difference with that setting be checked or unchecked. I have never really understood what the point of that setting was. Thanks! jewelisheaven
I'm not sure but I think it means for that filter the feed(s) specified don't parse the title tag. This allows (if appropriate) filtering on a filetype basis or other things which would get decoded such as episode number or resolution...Prime example, if you only want specific resolutions of a file or data, uT tends to interpret them as EPISODE, so use raw name and putting NOT: 1440x900 would 1) keep an episode counter from showing duplicates because they're all the same resolutions and 2) keep you from downloading an HR file which you don't really want.Actually that's only one way to use it.. many times the options depend on the feed setup and what content you're getting. nabilalk
Hmm, anything on the FAQ's or tutorials that lays out all of the possible uses for the "original name" option?
jewelisheaven
Only place I know of which describes the Favourite options is the Manual, and even then it doesn't specify the different parsing changes. If you need it you use it, hehNote of course in either case you can only filter if the feed gives you that. Some people go to great lengths to spoof files, which is why source is always more important than reach. i.e. if possible get from a specific provider than use a generic search feed from an aggregator site. nabilalk
Since the documentation is limited, perhaps Ultima or Firon will grace us with a more thorough explanation of the possible uses?
Firon
All the function is for is to make your filters match the original title given by the RSS feed, instead of what utorrent decodes from it.
nabilalk
how is that useful exactly? I just don't understand why you would use it? Also, is that as Jewel described, the best way to filter out .rar files?
Firon
from the rss tutorial,"You cannot specify the season or episode number in the filter if it is decoded by µTorrent (check the Releases tab): you must use the episode number box, OR turn on "Filter matches original name instead of decoded name." You also can't match by group name without first using "Filter matches original name instead of decoded name." Remember, using "Filter matches original name" disables the "Episode number" function!"And unless your rss feed mentions rar in the title, you're out of luck. nabilalk
ok, just checking. Its not that big a deal, but just thought that I would inquire. Thanks for the help.
joedornan
sorry for reviving an old thread, but it is the one with the most useful/accurate information and explanation of using the There are two types of names referred to in this thread: a) 'original' and 'decoded' Simple enough. But as a newb, I'm aware of three different types of names associated with a torrent:1) the file name of the resulting output file (e.g. "video1_GROUP_quality.avi")2) the file name of the torrent file (e.g. "video1_GROUP_quality.torrent")3) the name as it appears inside the uTorrent application (e.g. the 'name' column in the main window)I assume a = 1 and b = 3?Thank you to anyone who can confirm this for me.-JD
foomonger
The problem is that the rar files are inside the torrent, as opposed to in the name. What's required (and it really is) is a routine that automatically removes (rss-initiated) torrents that contain rar files. Simple. It should also reset the flag in the RSS downloader.-fm
DreadWingKnight
So you want uTorrent to download EVERY .torrent file from the feed in addition to the feed itself for this filter?
foomonger
lol. are you on drugs?
DreadWingKnight
No. That's the effective requirement for what you want uTorrent to do.
foomonger
No it is not. Perhaps I wasn't clear. Let me try again. What I am asking for, is that uTorrent, upon fully loading a torrent which I have scheduled to download (via the RSS downloader; for example, the latest Dexter), examines the contents (it already does, so that it can list them in the "files" tab) and on finding a .rar file within, deletes the entire torrent and resets the RSS download flag.uTorrent should assume that I never want to see .rar files in my automatic downloads. If I need to specify that somewhere, that's fine. I'll check the box. uTorrent does not need to look at any torrents except the ones that it has already looked at thoroughly, the ones right there in my download queue, eating bandwidth.-fm
