HoochieMamma
Ok after my other request is a little far fetched here I was wondering if there was a posibility of the following:We know that certain parts of the UI (File, Options, Help, Name, Status, Start, Pause, Stop, General, Pieces, Peers, Speed etc etc etc) are going to be there no matter what (and not change) so would it be at all posible to have these parts of the UI to be changable to different languages even when there is no language pack available? It would make life alot easier for people who use uTorrent in different languages and only cause a problem when another part is added to the UI in the options which has not been translated yet (which would be better then having the entire UI in English).Discuss! HoochieMamma
Does no one here use uTorrent in another language?
Rentahero
I personally don't understand what you're asking. I'm guessing that the Windows API doesn't have language equivalents for "Peers" in it, so that's right out of the picture. You *need* the language file for that. So... I guess you're not being clear in your request. Are you saying that there should be a mechanism to auto-upgrade the language packs? That'd make sense to me. Ideally, updates to the software would simply tack on new strings to the end of the text file that reflect new strings in the version. In general, the language stuff needs a makeover, but I'm not sure about what you're saying.By the way, I'm making a Japanese language pack for anyone who cares. I'm not a native speaker, but I'm close enough (I have worked as a translator for large Japanese corporations such as Panasonic) to perform a decent job, I think. I'll have native Japanese speakers check my work, too.
HoochieMamma
No, I'm meaning there shouldn't be a language pack in the first place. All the parts of the UI in uTorrent that will not change (File, Options, Help, Name, Status, Start, Pause, Stop, General, Pieces, Peers, Speed etc etc etc) should be capable of being changed without a language pack. A language pack should only be implemented when certain parts of the UI (which are new and only in english) get translated but before the next version comes out. Rentahero
OK, that's what I thought. I agree wholeheartedly. It seems like the current language pack template is a bit of a hodgepodge too (I've had to translate the same single word things at least 3 times already). So my request is that the language pack only contains 1 instance of any given text, and it's up to the app to grab strings from the language pack as necessary (not dependent on what line they're on, just that the foreign equivalent should exist on the line following). It'd mean language packs come out much more quickly, I think, and more people would be encouraged to make them. The current format is far too long and frustrating. (How many times does # and ... need to be in there?)Also, if indeed the strings are used multiple times, there's another place where μTorrent can be made even more μ (have all strings link from a common place). Though since the EXE is compressed, it probably wouldn't mean too much in the long run, since that text is no doubt just crushed to next to nothing.
