manto Posted May 8, 2008 Report Posted May 8, 2008 Hello,I am just frustrated as hell over this port forwarding. I'm kinda a noob to this so bare with some of my observations as they might not be relevant. I used to use uTorrent on my desktop and was able to portforward everything with no problem. Recently I switched to a laptop and am currently using wireless connection. I have forwarded my ports on my Actiontec MI-424-WR router but when i run the speed test, it says my port is closed. I have the port forwarding set to TCP>source=any>destination=single=2xxxx7 (my port). im really confused as to what i am doing wrong. I even set up a static IP (althought i did not need to do this previously on my desktop) but it does not resolve the problem.Any ideas? Thanks in advance
jewelisheaven Posted May 8, 2008 Report Posted May 8, 2008 Are you sure your modem doesn't have mini-firewall components? http://www.portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/routerindex.htm may also point out something you missed on the actiontecAdditionally what security software/suite/bundle do you run. It's possible you've got a firewall in there. Have you checked with multiple testers? Some don't report as open unless they're in use. http://canyouseeme.org and https://www.grc.com/x/portprobe=YOURPORTNUMBER work too.
manto Posted May 9, 2008 Author Report Posted May 9, 2008 yea, i have tried these websites, and it still says its closed. I also followed the guide on teh website you linked. I'm wondering if its due to my router or my verizon FIOS.
jewelisheaven Posted May 9, 2008 Report Posted May 9, 2008 If it's the router it should have some way to forward... If it's the modem on the other hand you'll have to play with gateway IP Addresses, OR take the router out of the equation to see if the modem has similar capabilities which need to be removed. http://forum.utorrent.com/viewtopic.php?id=15992
