ihaterogers
My internet connection continues to show inbound and outbound traffic after I have closed the torrent program. At first I thought it was a uTorrent thing but I get the same thing with Azureus. I tried different ports and I still get the same result.I am on Rogers Express and this actually started a few months ago. I have tried PeerGuardian2 to see what exactly was going on but its a huge list of different IPs that are constantly connecting to me.This only stops after I change the ports I have opened (only one TCP and one UDP port is opened). Why is this happening? Is there any way to stop this?
Ultima
Other people have your IP address because that's just how BitTorrent works. Since there is no efficient/effective way to tell every single peer in the swarm that you're disconnecting, they just don't get told. There is no way to prevent this, though disabling DHT might lessen the amount of time it takes for the attempted connections to stop coming. ihaterogers
How long is this supposed to continue because this goes on for hours (and I did not get this problem with uTorrent or Azureus near the end of last year; I don't use torrents much so I don't know exactly when the problem began but it was early this year)
Firon
It can happen for weeks. You need to configure your firewall to shut up about it. It's completely innocuous.
ihaterogers
Thanks guys. I usually don't use firewalls (as I don't go to warez sites, porn sites, etc.) so what program would you guys recommend that is simple and not a resource hog? If I turn on my router's firewall, is it good enough?
Ultima
In my experience, Comodo Firewall stays out of the way.
Firon
A router firewall will do, yes.But if you absolutely need a software firewall, Comodo isn't a bad choice, if a little difficult to configure at times.
