Low number of connections

I have had Utorrent working fine for some time now and downloaded and uploaded well. It used all 850 connections which i set in the settings.

But recently for some unknown reason Utorrent doent seem to want to use more than 250 connections thus reducing download speeds.

Also it is only using a low number of half open connections, no more than 25. Even though its set to use 150.

I am using a cracked TCPIP.SYS amd am not getting any TCP erroirs in event logs.

Why would Utorrent suddenly start acting like this, by this i mean not opening the full number of connections as set in the settings???

Can any one help??

Thanks

I hope you realize that half-open connections are just that, HALF OPEN. Once they're established, they aren't half open anymore.

And using 250 connections on a single torrent won't raise speeds, just reduce them. In fact, the higher you go, the lower actual throughput you get.

I mean 250 connections all together, i have 850 global connections and 100 per torrent in settings.

But it does seem to use more than 250 connection globally. The trackers are private so have always had good throughput.

ITs gone from downloading at full capicity and making use of the connections to hardly using any within the space of a day.

Just as a comparison, ive just installed AZUREUS and tried downloading a Torrent that is from same tracker that im downloading in UTORRENT. UTORRENT is only connected to 4 peers/seeds whilst AZUREUS has connected to 100 peers/seeds as set by the connections by torrent.

Thus AZUREUS is downloading at 100Kb/s / UTORRENT 4Kb/s and its the same torrent. UTORRENT has always performed really well giving me very high speeds but some how its not working correctly. Its not connecting to enough peers or using enough connections to get a suitable download speed.

Can some one shed any light on what might be going on as i hate AZEREUS and would like to get UTORRENT back to full capacity.

Thanks

OK i have found that when I stop all other downloads and just leave one running the download shoots upto 500Kb/s and connects to 100 seeds.

But as soon as i start up my other downloads the number of connections falls again.

I have tried raising the number of global connections but this has no affect what so ever.

Are the global connection set in the settings shared out between all the downloading torrents equally??

e.g. If i have 30 downloads with 100 connections per torrent, would i need to have 3000 global connections??

Even with setting a higher number of global connections, UTORRENT only ends up using about 250. thus leaving each TORRENT with around 10 Seed/Peer connections.

I cant work it out. I would of thought that raising the number of global connections in the settings would mean that the Downloading Torrent could connect to as many Seeds/Peers as it requires.

There may be networking software or hardware bottlenecks outside uTorrent preventing you from connecting to more peers+seeds. Are you disconnecting from lots of peers+seeds PER minute?

(Note: Don't count outgoing ip connection attempts that fail.)
