I found that the problem was a folder view setting. Had the same problem ... removed GDS ... stopped all indexing ... but did a global "folder/view" setting so that NONE of the folders (and I have hundreds) were all set to "DETAILS" view because since ONE of them was in 'thumbnail' setting, explorer was trying to render everything.

You know, I've experienced this error quite often and use MSN Desktop Search. The suggestion in the FAQ "The best solution is to simply uninstall Google/MSN Desktop, though," is not really helpful. I should delete a program because of a bug in uTorrent? C'mon, this isn't 1995. I don't know why this can't be fixed. Azureus never did this. But I digress.

I seem to have found a workaround for MSN Desktop Search. Maybe this could be added to the FAQ.

In uTorrent:

Turn on the "Append .!ut to incomplete files" option.

In MSN Desktop Search:

MSN Search Toolbar Options:

Advanced Desktop Search options:

-Add .!ut to the "Do not index these file types" box.

I haven't experienced the bug since.

One thing I found was that it was only effecting the music files I was downloading. Then I remembered that I had those folders monitored by Winamp and iTunes for new music. I turned on "append .!ut to incomplete files" and it resolved my issues. Turning Winamp off will stop it from monitoring the folders but iTunes monitors even when it's turned off.

Hope that helps...
