bryan8m
I'm wondering if the option to have utorrent pause all torrents while there is activity on the computer would be practical. When the computer goes idle, downloads would resume. A textbox would allow you to choose the number of minutes with no mouse movement after which the computer is considered idle.I'm not sure if this has been implemented in other clients, but I think it might be useful for people who want their downloads to run whenever they're away from their computer. tumu
Ever considered closing uTorrent while you work?
Rentahero
Instead of doing that, why not have it throttle if it detects a lot of net activity? I doubt it uses much as far as resources go having it download as opposed to having it loaded but stalled during computer use. What it sounds like you're really asking for is having it not interfere with other net usage, sort of like controlling CPU usage on a multitasking OS. I think that could be useful. clmckinley
I hate to bring back such an old thread, but this is exactly the feature i was looking for. I currently have everything scheduled around my common usage pattern, but sometimes my wife uses the system at odd times and complains about the speed. She ends up closing uTorrent and forgets to turn it back on. Basically something a little bit more automated would be awesome.
Switeck
You're probably using bad settings with uTorrent causing the speed problems in the first place.
Ultima
Indeed. Create a new thread in the Troubleshooting or Speed Troubles forums to see if we can help you solve the problem. This request has been rejected before, so that's likely not going to change.
wuul
I've written a little utility that can automatically adjust uTorrent's bandwidth when your PC is idle or active. It's called "AutoUTorrent" and can be found at http://wuul.host22.com/autoutorrent/readme.html. It works with uTorrent version 2.2 which is the latest version at time of writing (Dec 2010)It needs a bit of tinkering to set up but if you don't mind editing a couple of configuration files it shouldn't take you too long, and I've provided step-by-step instructions on the web page. It's a "beta" project at the moment, if you can't get it to work please feel free to drop me an email (my contact details can be found on the web page) and I'll see if I can help. Ashiq
Dear Mr. wuul,Your little utility is great! It works like magic! But is it possible to invoke the 'pause all downloads or resume all downloads' command using the API commands?OR maybe open/exit the program altogether, depending on the CPU's idle state? I looked for such commands in your referred link http://forum.utorrent.com/viewtopic.php?id=25661 but could not find one.Thank you in advance! Works perfectly! I don't understand how the utorrent dev's don't like the idea is being able to uncap bandwidth on idle. In the case of people who would use such a feature it just hurts the torrent community. Anyway its good to know theirs ways to have this functionality that ut should have. I was using utorrent pauser to do the same thing for a little while but I could never get it to work with version 2.0.4 or later.
wuul
Just a quick update: I've just released v2.0 of AutoUTorrent, as the earlier version stopped working once UTorrent 3.1 was released. Version 2.0 works with UTorrent 3.1 and now runs standalone, i.e. it doesn't require a separate utility to launch it. The UI has been improved somewhat as well making it easier to configure & test the application. Please feel free to give it a try and let me know if you run into any problems, the link to get the new version is http://wuul.host22.com/autoutorrent/readme.html
