Yes i searched and followed all the tips.. no help at all...

No, my disk is not in PIO mode..

It's a brand new hard drive.. Seagate 1TB SATA300 32mb Cache. It replaced a 500GB maxtor that died. I've tried messing with every combination of the disk cache settings and no matter what, after a few minutes I get disk overloaded.

I have 33 torrents running but limit it to max 5 downloads and 15 total active in the prefs.

I even "upgraded" to 1.8, same problem..

Any ideas?

Connection rated speed: 10MB down/ 512k up.

if I drop utorrent down to 1 active torrent I get about 800 kB/s - 1MB, but that only last for a minute or two then I get disk overloaded again.

I only know that my disk is not in PIO mode by the settings in device manager. All of my hard disks are set to DMA mode with no option to change them.

Those controller properties don't look right, specifically the lack of caching options, what are the drivers dated as? And what series nForce controller are you using? The date should be in either driver or details tab. The first few series of nForce controllers have some issues.

Well ignoring the number of problematic roxio services installed (2 different versions of roxio that are KNOWN to interfere in other ways), there is a likely possibility that you may have accidentally installed nVidia's forceware network manager (super sucky firewall package, installs by default.)

Dread: There was an old LE version of roxio that came with the computer that i forgot to uninstall.. It's gone now. How do I check for the nvidia forceware network manager? I dont see it anywhere. I'm pretty sure I didn't install anything directly from nvidia (except video drivers)

Motherboard chipset drivers MAY include the forceware network manager.

I can't remember which files to look for.

Sequentially, drives can sustain 30mbyte/sec reading no problem. The problem is, BitTorrent traffic has a LOT of random seeking.

There's a jumper on there to limit the transfer rate to 150 and I took it off.. Does that have anything to do with it?

Possibly, are you still having issues? Also, go to Dells support site and enter your service tag. The chipset drivers I got from there were more up to date then the ones available from Nvidia and didn't have network drivers. Also, when downloading from the Nvidia site you can get the controller drivers and forceware firewall separately, but I'd try Dells site first.

I was still having issues...

I'm pretty dood with staying on top of driver updates. The nForce driver on Dell support was the same as I had installed. I reinstalled it anyway, rebooted and fired up utorrent, and after about 30 seconds: disk overload.

There's a nForce update that's been sitting on windows update for a while. Rumor had it in the Dell forums that it causes major BSOD's for a lot of people and to stay away from it.

Screw it, I set a system restore point and installed it. Rebooted, fired up utorrent, and all seems well.

So your saying the Windows Update version of the nForce fixed your problem? Did it add caching options and NCQ to your disk controller options? And from my experience BSOD's occur if retarded Windows doesn't update the controllers correctly, took me a while to figure out.

Seagate Barracuda drives are a source of cheap storage, but they're now known for their performance. They're probably fine for using online as a torrent content archive disk, but not ideal as a scratch disk for torrent activity. My 500GB is very noisy and extremely bad performers compared to my other drives in the workstation.

i encountered the same problem,

the symptom is download speed is normal but upload is less than 2k,

after a few minutes "disk overloaded 100%" appears

what i did is i deleted the uTorrent folder in the Application Data folder

C:\Documents and Settings\Name\Application Data

this seems to solve the problem

I am guessing that maybe the one of the dat file is corrupted

Could have been some improperly set cache options, or your just not downloading enough to trigger it again.

Disk overloaded will happen when it first allocates the files. Depending on the speed of your disks, this could take a while.

I agree to Firon, uT wasn't able to allocate new files, then disk overloaded appeared,

another symptom is that every time you restart (close-> open) uT, it wants to rehash.

I didn't change any cache option before this happened,

the only thing I can recall is that there was a electricity outage and the computer was turned off improperly,

I am guessing maybe it's the corruption in settings.dat or resume.dat

It seems to run fine now for more than 12 hours, the symptoms usually appears in less than 15 minutes.

I don't see its indexer active, but you may want to try running uTorrent with Roxio uninstalled anyway.
