phrostbyte
Firstly I'll start with my feature request as well as a thank you, both of which I'm sure you hear all the time. Thanks for making such a great torrent client that is powerful while remaining small and non-resource intensive. I know you want to keep it that way which may make my request difficult: the ability to preview files while they are being downloaded, like music and movies... Sort of the way BitComet does it (although I'm sure that would a lot to the file size). Maybe you can just trick MPC into doing it somehow? Now the bug report, if I'm done downloading... and just seeding, it says ETA: something when really it's an infinite amount of time right?Anyway, thanks for utorrent. Firon
Previews like that aren't gonna happen, there's a thread about it here somewhere. Search for it.And seeding ETA is based off the value you put in Seeding Priority (100% by default I think? maybe 150...). It shows you the estimated time until you reach that share ratio. phrostbyte
Thanks for the response. Now I understand what the ETA means so that's cool. But about the previewing... I know it was decided that it's unneeded and considered "Bloat" by many, but would it really be hard to impliment and not "bloat" the program? I don't know how BitComet does it... but the previewer looks alot like MPC, so maybe they are using some MPC code or buffering technique. I'm sure it would be easy to get your client invoke MPC to preview/buffer the file while downloading? That would be really useful for people who aren't getting the fastest of transfer speeds and want to access their contect quickly.
Firon
It's not really that it's bloat, it's that you can't really give a good preview because there would be huge gaps within the file. What you can do is just make a copy of the file and view it in MPC.
phrostbyte
Ok, understood. New request then... can you have a right click (and/or toolbar) option that will make a copy of the file in the temporary files folder and open it in whatever player (like MPC) and then delete the file when the player is closed? That would be good enough, just something simple cuz I'm lazy...Somehow BitComet manages to stream the whole file while downloading though right?(I know I don't know a lot about programming so forgive me if I'm asking retarded questions.) Firon
if BitComet streams the entire file, then it's doing sequential downloading, which is bad for the swarm...
PeFi
jetAudio+ * v6.2.4 VX - 2005-10-25fulfils your request in 'most' cases ---* best player around the world )*_*(
phrostbyte
Not sure but what v6.2.4 VX - 2005-10-25 means but last time I tried JetAudio I didn't like it... It was huge and used a lot of resources, thanks for the comment though. Thanks for the suggestion though.Firon will you consider my request in feature #5? Ultima
Heh Firon doesn't code µTorrent, and features are added at ludde's discretion =PThat request doesn't seem likely to be included in µTorrent. It's (as you said yourself) a very lazy feature. Sure, there are some other features in µTorrent that fit in the same category, but this one just takes the cake ;P
phrostbyte
Lazy? Yes. But would it go unappreciated? No.Also I'm sure it would be easy to impliment and would only add a couple lines of code to the program.
foxyshadis
Built in preview is more like a thousand lines... being friendlier to other programs maybe utorrent could be better at but preallocating or using sparse files (it simply will not work without one or the other) and prioritizing the beginning and end are probably all it could really do for you. However, I know that at least winamp can open an exclusively locked file, maybe you could give that a try even if its video player is an abomination. tumu
If every lazy feature gets done, you'll have Azureus/BitComet. This thread is getting off topic by rehashing previous discussion.
phrostbyte
Firon said all you'd have to do is make a copy of the file, load it in default player, and it'll work. That's thousands of lines? I'm not much of a coder but I know that it would be a simple process.
foxyshadis
No, I said built-in preview. You know, built in media player. I thought that was what you meant at first.Anyway, making copies would just irritate everyone whose players can handle it without having to copy anything. There's probably even some option in MPC that will allow it to open them.
mightyspawn
review option is really useless TS, only the crappy sites allow files be uploaded in its original state. On most sites they maintain the scene rules like 14mb rar files etc...
