utorrent not closing properly

I've had a hunt on the forums for this problem, but havent found anything in the right context.

When I attempt to close utorrent - by right clicking the icon in the sys tray and selecting exit - it either freezes or appears to close, but is actually still running in the background. When I attempt to kill it via task manager, nothing happens and the only way to close it is to reboot, which is getting slightly tedious. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling, but its made no difference.

I'm running the latest utorrent 1.8 beta version and Vista Home Premium with AVG 8 and Vista FireWall Control.

Can you disable AVG's e-mail scanner and any other firewall-like function?

Have done. Still can't kill the process though.

I mean, once it's stuck it's stuck, you'll have to reboot and then try again. If it still won't close, then try uninstalling AVG altogether. If still nothing, then do the following.

ntsd.exe -p 4100 -e 4100 -c ".dump /mf c:\jit.dmp;q"

where 4100 is the PID, and c:\jit.dmp is the resulting dump file.
